So I got a new fire fish on Sunday and he is very shy!! Is this normal behavior for a fire fish? He stays in the rock and hardly comes out. All tank mates are doing good, he was properly acclimated. Is this norMal for this pretty little guy?

Filefish are fairly shy fish. If disturbed, scared, shocked, or looked at funny, they tend to run (swim) to the rock. I've heard that Purple ones are less so.

In my experience a lot of Gobies are like that!

Wouldnt you be a little scared or shy with a monster alien life form looking at you? Lol

It's normal. ;) glad your having fun.
Lots of fun! And anticipation. I want to add every fish like right now. Lol. But I shall wait. I also got 2 pj cardinals. My boys are just in awe of the tank.

Unless you find him as a French fry on your floor.

Fire fish gobies get so scared so easily that they have a high probability of committing sushi.

Plastic egg crate still has too big of holes to keep them in, but it helps.

Have heard this as well. I have a Starry Blenny and Hoevan's wrasse, as of yet neither have tried to jump!

Just about every fire fish I've ever had,.... Jumped. I figure that's why they were only $10 when I started the hobby.

My firefish hid constantly for a full week after I got him. Now he's out most of the time. You just have to give him time.
