I like calcium to be 420 to 450 dKH, alkalinity between 9 and 9.5 and magnesium to be 1350.
Mag is what I always find out of whack in a new tank. Once I get it at the correct level it doesn't change much and I don't have to supplement much. It is also important to have salinity at 35 (1.024-1.026 SG). All these levels are influenced by each other so it is important that they are all near ideal or they won't be stable.
