    WYSIWYG!!!

I think there are a number of smaller outfits but I have no experience with them at all. I’ve only ordered from SWF and DD. I also have a small number of fish, most for many years so I am very careful adding new. My community is stable and I worry about upsetting the balance.

    WYSIWYG!!!

I’m a DD fan myself. I prefer to get a healthy fish from the get go.

    Cycling.... diatoms?!

Could well be you have good colonies of bacteria on your rock when you got it. Fish food will be going into the tank eventually. There shouldn’t be any negative bacteria issues with the food. These delicate fish would not make it if there was. Diatoms are the start of the uglies. It is a...

sizing and necessity of a RO\DI system

I have to disagree. The contaminants build up with tap water. As water evaporates and we top off with tap water the contaminant levels increase. Even water changes don’t help reduce them because we are adding the same water with the same contaminants back.

sizing and necessity of a RO\DI system

There are a couple ways. You need a water source. And a drain line You can set it up permanently in the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room. With this set up you attach the input directly to the water line. They make adapters that allow you to attach it to the area where the water shut off...

sizing and necessity of a RO\DI system

The RO is always attached, when the water goes to the tank it also goes through the DI resin. My DI resin is in a separate canister that is isolated from the rest of the system. When it is used for drinking it doesn’t go through the DI resin. I have the RO+DI plumbed directly to my ATO and...

sizing and necessity of a RO\DI system

Yes it is important to use RODI water. Long term you’ll have a better, healthier tank. Size of the system doesn’t matter much only in how fast it makes the water. My tank is 120 with a 40 gallon sump. I have a BRS 5 stage unit. It makes, according to specs, 70 gal per day. In reality mine...

    Bleached GBTA?

Fish no, corals, depends on the coral but most will adjust and then thrive as long as they are slowly acclimated. I had two of those fixtures on my 40 gallon breeder which is very shallow, specifically to support anemones.

    New tank on its way...

Looks like a good start. Just some suggestions and warnings. 1. I’d increase the salinity to 1.025 to 1.026. Lower salinity is not an advantage. 2. Instant ocean is a great choice. I’ve been using it for well over 20 years. 3. Don’t count on the bottled bacteria to help much. Your cured...

    Sick Koran Angelfish

Looks more like lymphocytosis than fungus. Copper won’t help either and is poison for the fish. It should only be used if it is absolutely necessary for ich or velvet.

    New tank!

No pH supplements. You will need test kits for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Both salifert and Redsea are good brands. These are to monitor the cycle which will take around 6 weeks, maybe more. I’d suggest setting up a quarantine tank now while your tank cycles. That way it will be ready...

    lyrtail anthias

Nope they need a lot of space to swim. The 6 foot length is the important part. They also need to be fed several times a day.

    lyrtail anthias

Anthias need a large tank, 125 or bigger. They are swimmers and they are jumpers. They will get seriously stressed if they are in too small of a space. Aggression is also more likely in a small tank. This can lead to disease or the fish jumping out of the tank. Either way I’d move the...
