Biggest Paly Ever!

It has been in my tank less than 24 hours so hasn't opened up completely but I had to share. I saw this in a local reefers tank when I was picking up Purple Hornets from him. Told him if he ever frags it i wanted it and he called yesterday He bought one pollup 5 years ago. He had 10-12 now. He says he has never seen it for sale again. I will post better pictures after it opens up

Thank you. Are they as slow growers as he claims? Any suggestion on placement?

they are slow growers. as for placement I would go with as close to the origins conditions as possible at first then adjust from there. feeding will definitely increase the growth rate but not exponentially.

I just saw them at Worldwide today and they were going for $75 per polyp. Beautiful for sure but slow growers he said!

I'm going off the size of the reef plug but I would hazard a guess that its about an inch to an inch and a half when opened. they really are a huge species.

He had them about 1/2 way up in his tank under LED's. I find LED's hard to judge because they can vary in intensity so much. I have 2x250 MH and 2x54 T5's (ATI blue +) so I put them 1/5 of the way up and not directly under the MH. I feed the tank Aquavitro Fuel 2x a week for the Zoas and pally's. I spot feed my LPS 2-3x a week. Should I also spot feed them?

They were 2-3'' in the guys tank I got them from. Mine was one of the smaller ones.

Nice colony! How many did you start with? How long did it take to grow?

it was one polyp about 1.5 years ago. i glued it to that piece of rock
Feed it mysis shrimp, you will have another polyp in no time
