Black Hawaiian sand

So I am getting back into reef tanks after a long break. I’m currently in the planning stages, and reading up on all the new things that have come along in the hobby

One thing I really like, is the look of the black Hawaiin sand as the substrate.

Has anyone had long term success with this?

I understand some people don’t like the look of the black sand (I think it looks sharp!)

Besides the look, are there any other draw backs, issues or concerns?

It can contain iron. This can result in it getting stuck between a magnetic cleaner and scratching the glass
