cheato in cycling tank

is it ok to run cheato in a tank that is currently cycling?
I have a large patch in my current tank and am about a week from having my new tank filled. i'd like to not have to prun and throw away my excess cheato especially when im so close to needing it for my new tank. can i just throw it in the sump once i fill with water and rock?

Or just prune it a week later, I don't see a problem with it either way especially for such a sort period of time.
