What are signs that a piece of chaeto is healthy? I just received some today from someone on SWF.com and I want to know if it is still healthy. It is a darkish green and the little pieces of it are still attached. Is this still healthy?

an easy way to tell if cheato is unhealthy is if its yellow/brown or if its mostly clear with green specks (the clear would be dead and the green would be individual cells still possible alive or just not decayed enough to release their chloropyll

just give it good light and good flow and it will consume what it needs as dissolved nitrogenous compounds from your water.

depend on how big the area is you want lit up. a lot of people use just the 65w PC 65k spiral bulbs with sucess, I use 2x65w PC over my 30G sump....
