The Fire Shrimp, Lysmata debelius, gets its name from its deep, blood-red coloration along with its brilliant white spots across is carapace and appendages. It is without question one of the most vibrant and attractive invertebrate species available. It is a cleaner shrimp that will remove necrotic tissue and parasites from fish. They will often form symbiotic relationships with these fish as the stuff they clean off of them make for a tasty meal.
Fire Shrimp are best kept in tanks with plenty of live rock to hide in. They will often swim openly in the water column and will frequently be combing live rock and substrate as scavengers. They can breed easily in captivity and some experienced aquarists can isolate those larvae and raise them into adulthood. Overall, the Fire Shrimp is just flat-out awesome. It looks so cool, is a beneficial tank member, and is easy to care for.
