The Tailspot Blenny, Ecsenius stigmatura , also known as the Tail Spot Blenny, features a characteristic dark spot at the base of its tail amidst its beautiful orange and blue body, and a black and yellow band runs below each eye. They have large eyes outlined by yellow bands and small mouths. They can grow to be 2.5 inches and should be kept in a tank no less than 10 gallons if kept individually, and no less than 30 gallons if kept in a pair. The Tailspot Blenny enjoys grazing on algae found growing naturally in the tank, and loves hanging out in the crevices created by live rock work and are often easy to locate. We suggest keeping plenty of live rock in the tank, to help the Tailspot Blenny feel more at home. Like many other Blennies, the Tailspot Blenny can be a beneficial tank member in helping with algae control. They are a peaceful species and should be kept with other peaceful tank mates. They will graze on algae but also should be supplemented with other herbivore preparations that should include vegetable matter, including frozen and dried foods containing marine and blue-green algae. They will thrive in a temperature range of 72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
