I use the 50 micron washable filter pads. I change them out every other day and wash them in the washer with bleach. I do one wash with bleach and two rinse and spins with de-chlorine. No problems. You should look else where for your alge problem.
First use only RO/DI filtered water for...
I keep my 180 mixed reef at 80 deg. I had a heater Sh@# the bed and temps droped to around 72. The temp drop bleached a frag piece of SPS. Tempature swings will effect your coral for sure. If you have tangs they like it hot for the most part, 80-84 deg and my tank is filled with tangs. 80...
That is a nice idea but why go through all that work. Just get a piece of rubble rock and rubberband nori to it. The fish will still eat off the rock the same way. IMO the less work I have to do the better.
First off, I hope you are using R/O water for your mix and top off. If not please invest in a R/O DI filter system. I would also strongly suggest running some type of phosphate remover depending on your filter system. I have just gone through this same problem and I purchased a denitrate...
I am considering getting a Wavemaster pro but I have heard that they do not work well with the hydor koralia pumps. Has anyone used this combination with any success? I have read some posts stating that you can place air line tubing on the shaft to reduce chatter. I really do not want to...
I had a beautiful patch of xenia. Man it was growing great. Then I added a Vlamingi Tang. He leveled my xenia in a matter of days. I never thought Vlamingi's would eat coral but I guess you never know what a fish is going to do. Now I have the remains of the xenia, which looks like broccoli...
How can you regret upgrading your tank. If you love fish and coral you will always want more. Go for the biggest tank you can get and then go bigger. The maintenance is the same on any size tank. You still have to do water changes, just alittle more water. I upgraded from my starter 72...
Just my two cents but I have a Aquaripure unit and so far the unit has worked great. I think the new units are much more refined then there earilier units. I have no problems what so ever. The unit is alittle hands on but if you can adjust the flow valve every two/three days and feed vodka...
Here is a picture of my vlamingi tang. By far the best tang in my tank and man can he eat! I got him with the lateral line but he is making progress. Nice to watch his spots and lines change.
Hi guy's. I have been using this roll of pink/white poly fiber in my wet/dry. I bought the product off e-bay but they said it was safe for aquariums. Has anybody used this stuff? You guys are making me think....
The filter has an inlet (left side of filter) and outlet (right side) along with the injection tube on the head. A small pump sits inside the return side of my wet/dry and pumps water to the inlet (left side) and throught the filter. The filtered water is then returned to the inlet side (flow...

Here is a picture of my Aquaripure Large Nitrate Removal System. I attached the feeding tube or syringe so you can see where I inject vodka. There is a flow adjustment valve which I have located on the inlet side of my wet/dry. I have removed all my bio-balls as recommended...
First, the filter looks like two very large water filter units joined together. They are completely closed and filled with some type of bacteria. The unit has a small pump that sits in the return side of my sump and pumps water back to the filter and through the sump again going back to the...
