    Shrimp Motionless

Me too... Update: Still nothing. Only indication of life is that the crabs haven't eaten them yet.

    Shrimp Motionless

For the guarantee, you also have to return the corpses and go to an insane amount of trouble just to prove it wasn't your fault (I understand fully, of course). If something was DOA (as these appear to have been), they say you have to tell them within two hours of Fedex's delivery time.

    Shrimp Motionless

Got my SWF.com order today, everything fine except two cleaner shrimp, both practically comatose from the start. The site says they can be expected to lie motionless, so I went ahead and drip acclimated, but it's been ten hours since tank introduction with no change. I'm beginning to suspect...

    Osmotic Shock Delay

UPDATE: It seems I was very slightly fast in condemning all my shrimp to death. Though I hadn't seen him in a week, I discovered a single peppermint shrimp survived where all others died. This sounds like it's got to be shock, I'll be a lot more careful next time.

    Osmotic Shock Delay

Well, I'll definitely try that this summer when I get some money... I love shrimp but have never been able to keep them. I wasn't aware invertebrates needed a higher salinity, so I'll also work on raising that a bit.

    Osmotic Shock Delay

Hmm... perhaps I ought raise the salinity a bit, then. Since I'm a poor college student and can't afford a refractometer, I use two hydrometers and make sure they always agree.

    Osmotic Shock Delay

SG is 1.023, and yes, I have crabs and snails. There's even some species of snail (nassarius, maybe?) that's reproducing like mad, covering my glass with these tiny white snails when the lights go out. Somewhat of a relief to know that such a delayed death is possible... At least now I have a...

    Osmotic Shock Delay

Just a quick question for someone with shrimp experience. If a shrimp is suffering from osmotic shock, how long can said shrimp be expected to remain alive before it dies? I ask because I recently got some cleanup inverts, complete with some shrimp. Though I drip acclimated over a period of 3...

    Help my tang!

No no, you aren't understanding. The blenny is utterly fine. No problems. It's just the one fish, and it happened instantly, not over a day or two. It also does not appear as of now to be getting bigger, but it still covers most of his right side.

    Help my tang!

Well... If you've ever tried to take a pic of this particular tang, you'll know it's impossible. I doubt even RyeBread could get a clear picture of him, the way he manages to evade every shot. Anywho... the tang is behaving exactly as always. He changes is color at will, so I can't really say...

    Help my tang!

I don't know what would be stressing him, other than perhaps the blenny, but the thing is, it's only on one side and it's uneven. It looks like a fungal growth, but it isn't ON him like fungus, it IS him.

    Help my tang!

This is a very interesting story here, and I am at a complete loss. The other day I got a lawnmower blenny from my LFS. He had been in the tank overnight, and the next morning, was doing fine. Now, everything was great. I left for an hour. JUST ONE HOUR. I came back and my regal tang is...

    Peppermints and Camelbacks

I hear that you need at least three for them to want to come out, and I plan to get five unless something changes my mind.

    Peppermints and Camelbacks

Starting a shrimp tank, and since there will be no corals, I'd be safe getting either Camelback or Peppermint shrimp... I like them both and am leaning toward camelbacks at the moment; I noticed that not many people like them though. Other than the fact that they are occasionally predatory...

    Fighting Conch, Shrimp Temp

Huh... I'll check next time I go there, thanks.
