That is exactly what it is. It came on a piece of rock that I purchased. I've read that they are very difficult to maintain. I rather not return it to thye LFS since they do not have the capability to maintain it. Any ideas on what I can do with it to give its chance of survival?

Take your time when adding, patience is the key to marine. IMO I would add no more than two a month. Be cautious with your hog, he may nip at your crustaceans, shrimp or even smaller fish. They tend not to be reef safe.
