    too much water turn over???

Having a heck of a time keeping nitrates down. Have been doing 30 gallon water changes once a week and can't get to zero. I was wondering if I am turning the way over too fast for the live rock to be effective. I have a 200 gallon tank with a 3 maxijet 1200 power heads pushing water around in...

Do you run your skimmer while dosing DTs

I was wondering if you guys run your skimmer while you are dosing DT's Phytoplankton? The bottle says most skimmers dont remove a significant amount of the phytoplankton, however I was using Marine Snow before and it recommended shuting down the skimmer for 1 hour after dosing I am running a...

    what eats hair algea?

I already use a RO/DI unit and my phosphates are at .1 Is that high or acceptable? Removing it only causes it to spread since I have to rip it out to remove it. I dont know that I can remove the rock easily. I have a LMB as well but he wont eat it either. Guess I will try a foxface and a urchin...

    zero iodine killing cleaner shrimp

I have read the following or similar statements on this site and all over the Internet. Folk Lure maybe? In the "hobbiest" sector of reefkeeping, Iodine has been found to benefit soft corals, assist in calcification in stony corals, and enable crustaceans to molt properly.

    zero iodine killing cleaner shrimp

I have tested for iodine using 3 different test kits with the SeaChem kit being the best so far. When using the iodine reference that comes with the kit I can get the correct color with 8 drops of solution. When testing my water I can not get any color and have gone up to 20 drops. I do have a...

    what eats hair algea?

I need some critters to eat hair algea. I already have 2 yellow tangs, umpteen snails and crabs, and 2 Lettuce Nudibranch. None of them will go to the top right corner of my tank which is where my outbreak is. Is there anything else that will eat this stuff on a constant basis?
