    Giant Hawkfish experience anyone?

It's hard to estimate the age of the fish, in the wild they can reach 22" but that is probably not realistic in captivity. I would guess the owner had this fish for some time as they are not widely available I doubt it was collected at this size. I don't know about the lifespan but the fish is...

    Giant Hawkfish experience anyone?

You right Aqua, they are intelligent and that is what makes them unpredictable. This fish is completely aware of it's surroundings and responds to any movement. It will dart out of it's hiding space as soon as anyone moves the magfloat on the glass and it watches everyone that passes by. That...

    Giant Hawkfish experience anyone?

Thanks for the reply aqua, watching the vid I now do remember triple T's thread. I know this is a fish that you do not see everyday, which made me want to bring it home immediately. Fortunately I learned the pitfalls of impulse buys a long time ago. That being said, while at the store meand the...

    Giant Hawkfish experience anyone?

wow, I just realized that as of today I have been here for 4 years. So to recap, fours years have passed without an original thought, and I also noticed my friends list is empty. I guess the internet can mirror reality

    Giant Hawkfish experience anyone?

Hello all, I have been out of the loop for awhile and I hope everyone is doing well. I am seeking any input anyone has with giant hawkfish, I was at my LFS today and they have a huge giant hawk that came in. I was able to negotiate a screaming deal on it. The fish was brought in by someone, and...

    aggressive fish and starfish

indeed some of the large stars can be nasty, but they are no match for triggers, puffers and the like. Urchins are a favorite snack of triggers. I have a choc chip and a brittle and had a red general for a couple of years in my aggressive tank, but I dont have aggressive triggers or puffers. i...

    what would you do???

Not to pee in the punch bowl, but I have always been a fan of lions, I have 2 adult volitans in my 220 and they are actually very active. I would go with an eel, lion, aussie tusk, and then add a tang last, but thats just me.

    120gal - Stocking suggestions

As far as the tangs go I would go with the yellow, sailfin will get too big, and powder blues require experienced care and a mature tank. In that tank I would do something like this Yellow tang, 6 line wrasse, long nose hawkfish, a pair of percula clowns, shrimp goby, black cap basslet, a few...

    Stingray and Lionfish

if your new to salt, consider adding a couple of lions, a tang and an eel like a zebra moray. These fish are very tough, and forgiving of mistakes. Rays and sharks need alot of depth (front to back) in a tank for swimming room and the 24" in a 180 limits keeping these guys long term. Also sharks...

911 QT tank just cycled WITH FISH IN IT!

what size is yout QT? 8 fish might have been a little too much bio load. I am assuming that since your doing hypo the fish have Ich, so adding them to the DT is not an option? If this is the case keep your ph steady at 8.0 like beth said, and do water changes regulary. Use a water conditioner...

    Aggresive Fish List

In a 125 you have alot of options, but the lion won't mix well with aggressive triggers. You could add a tang, yellow or purple. An eel would be cool such as a zebra or snowflake, a harlequin tusk would fit in nice as well. some other things that come to mind are a foxface, large clown (tomato...

Spare 110, What would you do?

I already have a pair of volitans in my 220, which is why I was thinking of an aggressive trigger or eel was kind of looking for something different that I can't do in my 220. 220 stock is as follows. 2- volitan lions 12"+ 1- 3' zebra moray 1- 10" orange toadfish 1- 7" male blue jaw trigger 1-...

    Two DME's in a 240g?

if I recall correctly there was a guy on here a while back that had 2 adult dme's in a 6 foot 210. I think the key would be to have plenty of spaces for them hide, usually once an eel picks his favorite spot they stay with it. The issue would arise if both liked the same spot.
