All I can say is if your overflow is rated for 500gph your return pump needs to push at least 300gph after a 4 foot head. The 4 ft head is the average distance from sump to tank. Also for every 90 degree elbow in the plumbing you need to add a foot of head to compinsate. If you run too small of...
I would like to know what reference material states leaving algea growth is good. I understand that if hair algea is allowed to grow and it is disturbed (even by grazing fish) your releasing even more algea spores. The acceptable algea that should be allowed to grow would be corraline(sp?). If...
Heres some interesting Rio comments. http://www.reefland.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/000042.html
My experiance with them is bad too. They make too much noise for me.
Salt One,
This is due to poor circulation. The trick is to keep the waste in the water column. I had to play with my PH's for alittle while to get them just right. Remember that it only takes a small adjustment to make a big difference.

Maxi-Jets are very quiet and reliable. See if can fit a Maxi-Jet 900 or 1200 in there. You can find them at almost any LFS or fish website. Otto makes some real nice pumps but can be spendy.
Beth,
I don't own a Sea Clone but have a ? anyway. Does your skimmer foam at all or is it a dry foam that won't fill your collection cup? What pump came with it? Should be a Maxi-Jet.

Depending on how well your reef is running before you put in that LR. All that will happen is you'll get a ammonia spike then nitrite then nitrate. The smell just means the store didn't cure it. They really shouldn't have sold it to you without you nowing this. You might get a little algea bloom...
Hello,
You can run the Rio in some white vinager for a hour or so. That will clean it up. As for the algea, it's o.k. as long as it is on the outside of the pump. Also the 90 degree elbow on the Rio clogs with salt. That should do it.
I live just north of Seattle WA. Seattle is a very nice city to live in. I grew up in LA and it sucked, too much smog and people. I used to work for Intermec and was sent to Memphis to shut down the service center there. I loved Beale Street. I must say I ate so many ribs I still don't want to...
Try juggling buying reef stuff and studio stuff. Theres always something to get in both areas. I am 31 on 7/30 and wish I could be 16 again so I could invest in Microsoft. Then I wouldn't have to worry.

I have alittle. I hear it's kinda rare. I have some bright orange algea that I would like to get going. It doesn't seem to grow and doesn't like the light. It would be nice to have more than just pink, purple, and maroon stuff.
Keeping calcium levels at 400 - 450 is a must. Next would be a properly sized clean up crew and keeping nitrates and phosphates at 0 or near 0. What are your water test results?
