How loud would the pictured setup be? Should I have a T coming off there with a endcap at the top and drill a small hole? Does that make sense to you? And how many GPH do think that setup can handle? Sorry for all the questions.

I am planning on having my 55 gal. drilled. I was just wondering though, is an internal overflow box needed or can I just use a setup like I have pictured below? Please list a few advantages/disadvantages between the two.
