    lighting with MH

on paper it looks ok and should work, only thing is i would want to know what kind of reflector it comes with for the halides, who makes the ballasts and which bulb options you have

    Is a skimmer worth it . . .

i'll answer your question with another question... if skimmers pull out good trace elements, then how do you know which ones are being pulled out and how do you know which trace elements to add? granted there are some tanks that can pull off a skimmerless tank, most of them have low bio loads...

Seios what a piece of junk!!!!

seio's are not made for pressure situations and high head.. knowing that, the flow they produce is not a harsh jet of water flow, but instead a soft mass of water that spreads and diffuses quickly. i run a 820 along the back of my 60gal and you can see it pushes the water across the entire tank...

    lighting up my reef/fish tank

i would go with the T5's merely for the intensity and vast spectrum of bulbs availible... you would be amazed at what you can keep with T5's and since your tank is 20" tall you should be able to keep almost anything you like good luck nam

    reef lighting help

VHO's would be a very nice setup on your tank, i was running 4 110w VHO's for a few months and i had very good growth and colors. is that strip light normal output or are they pc's? you could just use them for a slight dusk/dawn effect and use the vho's for primary lighting source.

    lights too intense?

i would run the 250s if it was me... but its just my opinion, i'm running 250s on my 75 tall and its BRIGHT

    reef lighting help

first off, will you be upgrade the tank in the future? second, do you HAVE to keep the strip light? you can get away with just the halide by running a high kelvin bulb. for your current tank height a 150w double ended setup would be perfect if you wanted to fork out the cash for a DE...

Will this halide pendant work for clams??

i'd run a higher spectrum bulb... that wattage is fine. go for at least a 10k bulb, since anything lower then 6500 will promote algae growth and you don't want that.

another lighting question for the experts

the amount of watts will depend on the bulb and ballast used... i've seen numbers for 250w DE range from 240ish-300 watts per sanjay's articles. SE 250s or 175 SE should do the job, depending on the height of your tank.. 175 SE should do well since you have 330w of VHO that will be...
