has anyone ever seen particles floating on the surface of their water?

There is a surface skimmer box that is sold as an add-on to your back-pak. The box fits over the rio-pump and allows the pump to only send water from the surface of the tank to be sent into the protein-skimmer. They are about $20, so it's a really cheap fix. It should take care of the problem...!

    clarkii question

Yes a clarki would be okay in a 30... you may even be able to put a pair... depending on what else is in the tank with them.

    Green algea

It could be a lot of this... is there any phosphates in the tank? Are you fiding to much? How long are your lights on for and how old are the bulbs? Did something die in the tank lately and you could find the body? If you could provide us with the water spec's we could probably help you more?

    new zoas-question

The color of the coral will be different depending on the lighting... what type of lighting are you using... we need to know the spec. of the bulbs. Under only actinic bulbs... the corals will look more blue. Under metal halides the colors tend to pop alittle more. Under certain spec's the reds...

    shark ICK

In extremely bad situations... sharks can get what looks a lot like ick. However, it's usually a parasite infection that is directly caused by the shark being kept in a poor environment... usually to small of a tank. What is strange here is that it is on a bamboo shark. Of the sharks out...

    seahorse

If you want the seahorses to live... go w. oceanriders. Just do a web search. They are expensive but as I just said, they will be with you for a long time. Almost anything else that you get either locally or on the web will be from the ocean and they will slowly waste away.

    Black Percs!

That would depend on the females... As long as they stay away from each other you should be fine. However, if you create a situation that cause the two females to fight look out. Because I know you are going to ask. In the past I knew someone that had two seperate pairs of clowns in a 125. I...

what kind of lighting should I get?

See then you completely understand why my wife would kill me if I mounted a ceiling hanging metal halide in one of the formal rooms... If you have a canopy... make sure the lights will fit and you can still get into the tank for maintenance, feeding, etc... If the canopy doesn't work, this...

what kind of lighting should I get?

Hear are the basic options if are looking to have corals... Metal Halid, Power Compact, or VHO I believe you stated that you had a bowfront 46 gallon tank. If you have a canopy on the tank... you could mount bulbs inside the canopy. If you don't have a canopy, you will have to purchase a...

what kind of lighting should I get?

MH would be overkill for what you are planning on adding. MH also generate a lot of heat, so unless you can mount the light a good distance from tank, you will have temperature problems. If I were you, I would look into VHO's or PC lighting... If you are a little handy you can pick up the need...

With the pump you are running - if it truly is 200 gph, probably not since it is a RIO pump... The kill time in not going to be long enough... The kill time would also be known as the exposure time. This is the time that the water is exposed to the UV light. The UV will still kill some items...
