    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To maintain a healthy reef tank, you need a lot of water circulation. That means filters, power heads, and a protein skimmer. Just read the setup guide on saltwaterfish.com. Lr needs a lot of circulating water to propagate, which means power heads, both high and low in the tank to move water...

    new live rock blues

Some algae is good, but green is an indication of overfeeding the tank! The "purple stuff" is coralline algae, and needs the correct amount of calcium (400 to 500 PPM) to propagate. Brown algae is from sunlight, and green algae is from overfeeding the tank. I had the same problem, but after I...

    Poll: MH ,VHO or Both

I recently replaced my VHO with powercompact flourescent. Wow! What a difference! The JBJ I purchased has my lr propagating, and my corals happy. The best news is, it was much less $$ than a mh setup. I also like the separate switches to separate the actenate and sunlight bulbs. ;)

    Feeding tangs?

I feed my tangs brine or ghost shromp nightly, followed by a piece of green seaweed to chew on. Make sure the frozen shrimp you buy has a high protein % to keep them well nourished. Good luck!

    open brain question RE: feeding?

Open brains are filter feeders, not carnivores. Keep the calcium levels adequate and add iodine once a week to make your open brain spread all over the tank! I've had one for 18 months, and it looks fantastic!

    liverock or reef rock

If by reefrock what you mean is "dead" reef rock, then a combination will work well. The lr will propagate onto the other, and you will increase your bio filtration, making your tank very stable. Be sure to keep the calcium levels between 400-500 ppm to get the best coralline aglae...

    Help me with green algae!

I had the same problem when I f1rst set up my reef tank, and the answer is simple: you're overfeeding your tank! Clean out the green as best you can, then ease up on the food. As I was instructed: it's better to underfeed the tank 20 times a day than to overfeed once. If food is uneaten after...
