    Icecap POWER CORD confusion

So the two pictures are of the wires and ballast (icecap 660) that I have. I am planning on wiring it soon....but there's a problem: I can't figure out how to connect the power cord to the ballast. There is a connection, but it's one of those clip on connectors, and it has 4 wire connection...

    SPS... help correct me

Im looking into getting more SPS corals (prefer acro), and was told that if I was having the great success with my stylophora and pocillopora and monti cap I could probably get an acro. I refuse to get anything more green because I have too many green corals. now, from what I can see, most...

by dinky...I mean a cheap brand of T5s. I have an existing system which is why I don't want to go and buy a whole new system, but I dont have to worry about dusk/dawn setting bc there's a built in timer

    T5 DIY

ok, but if you were to make the decision would you rather buy another system for the same price and take two apart or just take one apart and add a retro kit???

    T5 DIY

long story short I started adding SPS corals after having my 55 gallon for 4 years...my first (neon green stylophora) turned mint-green, so I now know I need stronger lights if I want to have the colors I want (or at least I think so). I have 4 X 54 watt T5s on a dinky system and was...

    T5 bulbs suggestions for SPS

So I have 4 X 54 watt T5 bulbs (2 white and 2 actinic), and it's almost time to replace them. I have a few SPS corals and would like to get more. I would like to see some improved coloration in one of my SPS corals:a green seriatopora which used to be fluorescent, but now is minty green. What...

LED lights...why doesn't anyone do this?

do actinic lights serve any purpose other than providing blue light to make a more realistic and aesthetic look to the tank? In other words, do they aid in coral growth or the ACTUAL color of corals? The reason I ask is because I have 4 X 54 watt T5 lights (2 white 2 actinic) and was wondering...

LED lights...why doesn't anyone do this?

one last question.... do actinic lights serve any purpose other than providing blue light to make a more realistic and aesthetic look to the tank? In other words, do they aid in coral growth or the actual color of corals? The reason I ask is because I have 4 X 54 watt T5 lights (2 white 2...

LED lights...why doesn't anyone do this?

yeah, I just got a message from him when I posted the same thread on talkingreef. Although I did want to try the Xmas lights ALONG WITH my T5s, I thought this light: http://www.theledlight.com/par38.html would do much more. This is what comes up when I google high output led.

LED lights...why doesn't anyone do this?

So, I was thinking....why can't we just take a string of LED christmas lights, bunch them together in a tight area, and point them towards our reef tank...would that not help the growth and coloration of corals? Then, I went on to read that christmas lights don't have the same output (but they...

    natural light supplement?

I have a 55 gallon fish tank with a 20 gallon sump at home (Im a University of Iowa student) and my mother has so graciously taken care of my reef tank. I decided that since she's retiring as a high school teacher, I will take it off her hands for all the work she's done. Long story short, I...

    SPS corals

I reposted this thread on the REEF TANKS category, bc i'm afraid no one will respond to my old one in the SPS category. So, I went to my LFS last December and purchased two VERY small frags; one being a green seriatopora and the other pocillopora. I don't know exactly what kinds they are but...

Easy SPS coral and tank by a window

oh, and also, the pocillopora (the brown one) is now green tinted, is fuller in appearance, and has grown a little bit (just not as much as the other coral)

Easy SPS coral and tank by a window

So, I went to my LFS last December and purchased two VERY small frags; one being a green seriatopora and the other pocillopora. I don't know exactly what kinds they are but the time period between the two green coral pics is about 4.5 months (i think it's good growth). I have 4 X 54 watt T5...

    T5 Photoperiod?

I tried the ten hours....algae bloom would be an understatement for my circumstances. I added another pump for better aeration so I think it may help bc my pH was down a bit. I took down the photoperiod a notch and hope that will help....what are your feelings on a sae urchin for algae??

    T5 Photoperiod?

Okay, so I bought a 4 X 48'' T5 system that has 2 T5 HO 12,000K bulbs and 2 T5 actinics....I have tried to find any source that could tell me how long my photoperiod should be, but every one I found had an integrated MH bulb as well. I just need to know how long to keep on both types of light so...
