    beginner sps corals

I have upgraded my lights (1 400 watt 10,000k halide) on my 55 gal. It's been up for about 2 months and have no problem with heat or anything else. My question is for all those who have sps orals. Which ones did you start out with? I am looking to add some frags slowly that are hardy, forgiving...

    I WANT RARES/EXOTICS

I've noticed that most sites except for this one has a rare/unique/exotic section in their online stores. I don't normally order a lot off the internet, but there are some things that you can hardly (if ever) find in the stores. I have ordered from this site before and think that their...

    cleaner crews: crabs per gallon?

In reality, you don't find a lot of hermits on reefs, they are found more in the sandy parts. I know that the red scarlets aren't as destructive as the blue ones, but you don't really need them. there are certain snails that will do as good a job as hermits and don't harm anything.

    How To Help/Side-by-Side Refugium

Do you have a sump on the 40gal? If you do, then all you would have to do is split the return line so it feeds to both tanks and then have your refugium drain back to the sump. That way it won't matter where or how high your refugium is. Just an idea!

    success with nudibranchs

I ran a search on nudibranchs and found that a lot of people were saying that they didn't know what to feed them or that they don't last long and not to get them. What I am wondering is, has anyone had success with them? If so, what kind was it, what did you feed, and in general how did you...

    understanding halides

Current Lighting: 2 3 foot vho actinics 2 24" 55 watt 10k PCs ( bought 55s because i wasn't sure 36" would fit my canopy, turns out they do) total= 302watts This is what I am leaning towards: Keep the 2 vhos Add 250watt 6500k MH total= 442watts Would 250watts be too much for a 55gal? Should i...

    understanding halides

So aside from the heat, halides give better penetration and lighting intensity. Does that mean, a clam will get better and more light from a 175watt halide than 175 watts of PCs or VHOs placed in an aquarium less than 24" deep? KDLBEM, I shop at Upscales in tualatin and just recently discovered...

    understanding halides

I am debating wether or not to get halides, but just want to clear something up. If you have 175 watts in say PCs or VHOs, would that be the same as having one 175 watt halide bulb? Given that they are all the same k. Would it be better to add more PCs or VHOs because they are cheaper or...

TO REPLACE OR NOT, THAT IS THE QUESTION

Oh, forgot to add something. Neon gobies also are cleaners. While they don't do as much as the cleaner wrasses, paired with cleaner shrimp, they can do as much as a cleaner. Plus they are tiny so you can add more and more fish, like I know we all like to do :D

TO REPLACE OR NOT, THAT IS THE QUESTION

In my experience, cleaners don't do very well. Since they get most of their nutrition from parasites, they will eventually starve to death. Even if they take brine shrimp or flakes. Mine ate to his heart's content and died after 6 months (water parameters all excellent). It's like humans...

Can anyone recommend a good book on fish? I want one that has a large variety of species and gives general information about each one.
