Automatic Water Testing - Fish Only Tanks

Neptune has a system as well but I’m not sure what it tests. Personally I don’t think it is worth the money for any of the automated systems. My pH is monitored by my Apex, only because the probe came with the system, and I rarely test the others. When I do, I use the salifert test kit for...

20 gallon aquarium stand. Metal or wood?

That is mostly a choice based on aesthetics. I personally prefer wood, I build my own stands because my Tanks have been very large and I prefer them to be taller than the typical store bought stand. Things I’d consider in my choice if I were to buy one, beyond liking the way it looks, include...

    Red algea

I assume you are referring to Cyanobacteria. Reducing nutrients is the only long term solution. Increasing flow and more frequent water changes help you get there. You may be feeding to much and/or your tank may be overstocked.

    Rusty Hose Clamp

The sand may be part of your issue. I always recommend replacing the sand When moving to a new tank.

You need the API for copper safe the others won’t work. Treatment won’t work if level is too low. Fish will be poisoned if level is too high. hypo is much, much less stressful. Copper is a poison and since you aren’t testing with the recommended test kit you don’t know your level. Copper...

MY DT HAS ICH MY BLUE FACE ANGEL HAS ONE CLOUDY EYE

Are you testing the copper level in your tank? With copper safe the API test is best Is there sand, crushed coral and or rocks in your tank? Sand and rock absorb copper and will effectively lower the copper concentration making it sub therapeutic. In the display tank you are better off using...

    Rusty Hose Clamp

It is possible. You can get hose clamps that are not metal and I’d suggest making that change. Even if that isn’t the issue rusty clamps can fail. Did you transfer your sand as well?

    What's your maintenance schedule?

My target is weekly 30 gal water changes (tank is 120 high) but in reality it is more like every 2-3 weeks. I scrape glass as needed and empty skimate from the reservoir when go downstairs where my filtration system is And I think of it. I have my RODI system plumbed directly to my ATO and 35...

    goby question

You still would be best to avoid sand sifters like diamond gobies. They don’t eat detritus in the sand but the critters living in it. They will deplete the sand bed of those organisms quickly then slowly die because the can’t get enough food, even if they eat prepared foods, they need a...

    goby question

Diamond gobies do poorly in captivity and absolutely won’t work in a tank with crushed coral. They are sand sifters. sifting sand through their gills is how they get their food. They will very quickly deplete the food in a tank. crushed Coral is not a good substrate for the majority of...
