Need your input. 1st build of 2020!

I’d stick with a mixed reef with softies and LPS initially. They are easier and handle higher nitrate levels well.

    Saltwater 10 gallon tank

A single clown would be fine if it is an oscellaris. Other species won’t work in a 10. You could also put something like a clown goby or shrimp goby because they won’t interfere with the clowns territory, but nothing else. Snails would be good only one or two. too many and they will starve.

    Saltwater 10 gallon tank

1.026 mimics the ocean. I prefer to keep my levels close to natural seawater. I target 1.026.

You need to use reverse osmosis deionized water for top offs and to mix your salt water. You can use distilled.

    New fish keep dying!!

If it is just the clown 10 gal would be fine although a 20 would be better. Once the fish less period (also called the fallow period) is over you can use the hospital tank as your quarantine. You don’t need to keep the quarantine going all the time. I keep sponge filters in my sump so that...

    New fish keep dying!!

You likely have ich in the tank although it could be velvet. At this point you need to remove any fish left in the tank and put them in a hospital tank and treat them for ich and velvet. copper is the treatment for both. A hospital tank will contain nothing but some pvc pipe elbows, a heater...

    Mystical scooter blenny.

My female ruby red appears to be settling in very nicely. I wasn’t sure how the much bigger male would treat her but he hasn’t bothered her at all.

As the OP stated canister filters need weekly cleaning. Other types do not.

    Newbie 24 gallon all-in-one reefer.

Don’t worry about the skimmer won’t help anything until fish are in it. By turning on the filter you allow the bacteria to colonize the filter. If it has a sponge component that will hold tons of bacteria which is good. When you do water changes use the water from the change to rinse out the...

Random Assortment of Observations and Questions

I’ve never had an issue with gobies jumping. Shrimp gobies pretty much stay at the bottom near their cave. Clown gobies stay in the rocks. You don't want to cover your tank with a solid cover because it decreases gas exchange resulting in a lot of issues even fish death. You can purchase...

    McCoskers flasher wrasse

Still doesn’t look like a terminal phase McCoskers. It’s a pretty fish and so far he hasn’t jumped out of the tan like my old one. Just curious about other people’s opinion.

    lose of fish

that is typical of chromis. They pick each other off until only one is left. I wouldn’t expect you to find the bodies. The CUC takes care of them quite quickly.

    Help on stocking list

The jaw fish don’t do well in aquaria. They are a more cold water species. Otherwise it sounds great.

    McCoskers flasher wrasse

Could be. He started to develop the blue head when I added the anthias. I wonder if he sees them as female wrasses. My old one used to flash my fire fish.
