Is this everything I need for my filtration

Hi, Tips: Do regular water changes, quarantine all new fish, dip your corals (but be careful and do your homework, not all corals can be safely dipped), and do regular water tests.

Coralife Protein Skimmer 65 not bubbling

Hi, Enjoy it while it lasts...I HATE Corallife brand...Back in the day they were a good brand, but they went out of business, and all that's left is junk they couldn't sell. My Coralife skimmer experience was the reason for me to finally decide to never buy that brand again. Watch it so it...

My anename looks like a brown va-jay-jay.... Why?

Without pictures it's hard to tell, brown doesn't sound good...but anemones expel their water and go limp, then refill...it's how they poop. OR... if it's oozing brown goo, it's dying.

New to Hobby ... Is this ok???

Hi, I love sponges, and I have had luck with all but the tall cactus looking ones. As long as there is good water flow, no algae build up (keep it out of the light)... and have never been exposed to air, they should be okay. Post some pictures of the full tank, like I said, it sounds like you...

    New saltwater aquarium

Hi, None at all...let the tank cycle and run it course. Little water changes are only done if you are trying to keep a fish alive through the cycle (called a soft cycle). It actually slows things down to do that. By not using a fish to cycle, it isn't needed... just let it go through it's changes.

New to Hobby ... Is this ok???

Hi, Well it sounds like you are doing pretty good thus far... did I understand correctly that you used the net handle and knocked an air bubble off the sponge? Sponges are not an easy critter to keep alive, an air bubble is not a good sign. So just do as you said, and keep an eye on it. My...

New to Hobby ... Is this ok???

Hi, welcome to the site. I don't know about the little white things, but it could be air bubbles. Since you are new I am asking some basic questions. How long did you cycle your tank? How long has your tank been up and running? Are you testing your water with your own test kits? When you moved...

    New guy well sorta...

Hi, Reef tank...get live rock and reef sand, you will be glad you did. It's a small tank so you won't need much. Keep the lid open, or use egg crate. Bio cubes are kind of self contained, but regular SW tanks need to be open. I would get a canister filter with a spray bar (Fluval brand is...

2 different questions... Oily Water surface and blue tang diet

Hi, New tanks go through all kinds of changes the first year. Do you have a skimmer? The film is I THINK algae, a natural part of the little eco system, as the tank matures, tiny living things grow. A SW tank is alive on all levels, and constantly changes. The surface of your water should look...

2 different questions... Oily Water surface and blue tang diet

Hi, Oily looking film on the water surface means you don't have good water flow churning the surface. Point a power head toward the surface to get rid of it... A spray-bar is the best thing. I rigged one using a power head and attached a piece of PVC, capped it and drilled a few holes, it made...

    Coraline algae

REEF test kits, what you have are the regular SW kits. Stay away from API, they read higher on nitrates and folks think there is a problem when there isn't. Salifert is good, as well as the SeaChem brand. Instant ocean is the easiest to read, but I found most places are always out of the refills.

    Coraline algae

Hi, Right in front of a power head...use a hard toothbrush (new unused, not one that belongs to your mate or your siblings) Rub the dickens out of the blue stuff to send spores all over to seed the rest of the rocks.

    BTA in trouble plz help

Hi, Clowns don't need an anemone, in fact they may never bond with one. Mine liked the intake, and output tubes of my canister filter. Get an anemone only if you really like them, they are a huge pain in the butt to keep. They find their own happy place, and it usually isn't where you want it...

    a frustrating day

Hello, To be perfectly honest with you...I couldn't keep a flame angel alive to save myself the first year my tank was up and running. One day is about all it lasted. I was actually afraid to purchase dwarf angels at all, I went through two within 3 months and then gave up.. Two years later, I...
