    Water Quality Question

I thought API kits were just bad for reading nitrates high. OY...ammonia too... ??? Get another test, for ammonia I use the strips, they are fast and cheap. Any reading at all on ammonia means do a water change. With fish already in the system, you should have no ammonia reading at all.

    Crickets....

LOL... My heart was completely damaged on the left side (massive heart attack at age 22), it rerouted arteries and veins...the doctor can't even find the damage. He kept insisting I must have been wrong on the diagnoses, until he talked to my heart doctor. I spent 3 months in an ICU at Layola...

{{{HUG}}} I'm adding you to my prayer list, I always pray for a cure of such dread diseases and wisdom to the doctors on what to do. I'm glad you posted, so often things happen to the folks we have in our cyber families. and we have no idea what happened or why. We do pay for every bump and...

    Crickets....

There are some new folks, tanks just starting out and such. I lurk around here every morning. LOL...I can answer the easy questions (most times anyway), so I'm trying to be of some help. I took down all of my tanks. They were so neglected, and I couldn't take care of them properly. I miss them...

    canister filters

Hi, Welcome to the site... Your canister filter is fine, no white phosphate remover so the media is a little different for SW than fresh. You can put off getting a skimmer for a few months. You will need live rock with a SW tank.

Quick help!!! Mushrooms and others don't look good?!!

Phosphates (PO4) at 4!!!! You will be getting nuisance algae, if not already... Hair algae (all algae) feeds on nitrates and phosphates. That high PO4 will also negatively affect your corals.

Quick help!!! Mushrooms and others don't look good?!!

I agree with Bang Guy. Just a note for you to remember in the future: 8.0 was okay and you shouldn't have dosed. PH changes through the day, sometimes you can just stir the sand to bring it up. Now for the big question...What can be done to bring things back to normal? I'm guessing it will...

    Sea monkey eggs

Get yourself a good beginners book, that way you can learn how to control the water parameters. Saltwater critters eat other saltwater critters, I'm afraid it's nature. You can get a bigger tank, and keep more advanced critters that you can feed frozen food to. That way you won't feed live food...

    Sea monkey eggs

Hi, Those tiny little fish bowl tanks they sell with them are hard to keep stable. With saltwater you need test kits to know what's going on. I got sea-monkeys when I was a kid, and dwarf seahorses, those little "tanks" are impossible for kids to know what to do to keep it stable, they don't...

    Sea monkey eggs

Get yourself some brine shrimp eggs, and hatch another batch of sea monkeys. Read up on line how to raise your own live fish food, which is what brine shrimp is considered to be.

Air Bubbles bad for Saltwater aquarium?

Hi, Painted black is the best IMO, but your tank is up and running, so it's too late for that one, unless you can paint it where it is. Dark backgrounds, or blue, shows off the fish, and makes their colors pop. Those plastic ones that adhere to glass look good, but salt creep wouldn't allow it...

Air Bubbles bad for Saltwater aquarium?

Hi, Adding the cycle is not going to take care of your nitrates. In fact nitrates are the last part of the cycle (ammonia becomes nitrites, nitrites become nitrates), you do water changes to keep nitrates down. You can add macroalgae, it feeds on phosphates and nitrates. If you plan to have...

    Guys need help asap.

Totally agree! Those battery powered air pumps fishermen use, are super helpful too. You should always have a back-up plan BEFORE a serious problem. Consider this a wake up call, to remind you of how important it is to be prepared for the worst.

Blue hippo tang laying in anemone normal??

I would think it has something to do with the health of the anemone, the healthier the nem, the more powerful the zap. I had a tube anemone that ate a few shrimp, a couple of lawnmower blenny's, but the last straw for me was when it stung my Copper Butterfly fish to death... I found the fish...

Blue hippo tang laying in anemone normal??

Hi, Anemones sting, the clown can take it, but not the tang. I'm surprised the tang is still alive at all.
