    RO vs RODI

Right, the cleaner the source water the longer the filter cartridges will last. I also replace sediment and carbon every 6 months. The DI is replaced once I detect TDS over 1. RO is every few years depending on how it's working.

    New Here

Don't worry about the silt. It will slowly sink into the coarser grains. It's good to have as it has an amazing amount of surface area. After your cycle I'd recommend buying some actual live sand. What you have is fine for cycling but it doesn't have the "live" part needed to keep the sand...

+1 What do you mean by live sand? Is it the wet sand you can buy in a store or is it live sand from the ocean?

Converting my 120 fresh into salt

I've often suggested draining the water out of a tank to get a fish out. I either get laughed at or ignored. I'm not sure why since it works so well. Just dig a shallow area in the sand and all the fish will be in that area once the water is gone.

    Water back into aquarium

Coil your entire siphon hose into the bucket so it's completely full of water. Set the bucket just above the aquarium. Grab one end of the hose with your thumb over the opening and pull it out of the bucket and submerge the end into the aquarium. Ensure the other end of the hose is on the...

    RO vs RODI

You may as well just send it through the DI. The cartridge will not be used if there's nothing in the water and will last a long long time but if anything ever starts to show up it will remove it.

    ? on clown fish

I agree. What you are doing is definitely stressful to the Clownfish as they are very territorial. But Ick is a parasite that would have to have been introduced into the tank by another fish. Question though, has there ever been a fish in that tank that had Ick?

    I need help saving tank

Dead sand is many times less expensive than live sand. I see no reason to have all of the sand be live sand. So, I wait until after the tank is cycled to add some high quality freshly harvested live sand. There will be more sand bed diversity this way since nothing will die during the cycle.

    I need help saving tank

This way works and is a very common method. For me it spikes the ammonia too high in some cases and this harms the animals residing in the live rock. This is the method I developed over the years and it works best for me ---> Bang Guy's Cycle Method

    New Aquarium

Check the FedEx facility hours. You might be able to swing by there on your way home. Mine is 50 miles out of my way so I never use that option but I believe they will hold a package at the facility if you request it and it's listed in the delivery instructions.

Can I get some ideas here?

Survival, assuming nothing damages it further, is probable. In a healthy system probably pretty close to 100%.

ocean/tidepool water for cycling new tank?

It could be fine, I don't know where you are though. The further from shore the better the water should be. I would suggest taking from the open water vs the tidepool.

That's expected. Trying to implement a temporary solution on a long term problem is just going to fail. Good for you to recognize that a long term problem requires a long term solution.

Have you tried killing the Ghost Shrimp before feeding it? Make it a three step process, first get it to eat fresh dead ghost shrimp, then frozen & thawed ghost shrimp, and then it will be easy to get it to eat dead other foods.
