Mushroom cluster buried under live rock

Sorry, I'm not a reefer so I have no idea what category mushrooms fall under, so I'm putting this here. The guy from my LFS came by this morning and removed a particularly aggressive Queen Angel from my tank. In the process he did quite a number on my aquascaping. He put most of it back in place...

Seriously, enough with these filter socks!

I got that too. I'm nuts about water clarity. Oh, and my "boosting" days are over. Can't handle the flashbacks. :-O

Seriously, enough with these filter socks!

Yeah, they came with the sump, along with a matching pair of spats ;-) I then foolishly purchased another two. I will look into the nylon socks. Thanks for confirming what I already knew. I'm a moron. Cheers!

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

Strange, I didn't get email notifications for any of these follow up posts. Yes, I stopped the bio fuel and there was considerably less film on the glass today, most likely spots I just missed when cleaning the glass yesterday. I have T-5's before and couldn't grow coraline then, either. I'm...

Seriously, enough with these filter socks!

I keep reading where filter socks, or sock filters, whatever it is, should be cleaned once a week, or at the very least once every two weeks. But mine clog up and overflow every 3 days. It's a major pain to get the back one off. I don't have a major bio load and there's almost nothing in them...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

Right. I have the output going right back to the skimmer. I've stopped bio fuel for now to see what happens. Like I said it never was a necessity, and another example of the LFS screwing with me. I assume I should continue with Fusion 1 and 2 for PH and calcium, right?

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

Hey Bryce, I just read the bottle and you're right, Reef Bio Fuel is a carbon source, meant to eliminate phosphates and nitrates. Now, I've got almost 200 lbs of live rock in my 180. I have a protein skimmer, enough chemi-pure for 200 gallons, AND a Phosban Reactor running bio-pellets. Do you...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

All levels testing excellent and consistent. I only dose once every two days. I do it because my LFS, which can be extremely friendly and helpful one day, and seemingly out to destroy my tank the next, told me to, for my mushrooms and sponges. Oddly enough you mention feeding coraline algae...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

I'm not sure if I'm describing the problem correctly. It's NOT a powdery film, it's just an invisible, extremely thin layer of what I always assumed to be fish body slime. You can only see it if you look through the side of the tank at a very narrow angle. I don't add magnesium because I don't...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

Will do. Bio Fuel is more like a food for filter feeders, a nitrate reducing bacteria bed booster, with a pleasant alcohol like smell to it, nothing to do with carbon. If I remember correctly I have always had this filmy buildup on my glass, even with previous aquariums. Just out of curiosity...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

No, it's not a bacterial bloom, it's just a very thin slime, and even that makes it sound worse than it appears. I don't vodka dose but I have been adding Reef Bio Fuel which is supposedly a substitute for vodka dosing, and which my filter feeders seem to enjoy, but other than that it's not...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

Chemi-pure Elite. Just put in a new 46 oz. bag just today. Are you saying that would be the cause, or the cure? If the cure, maybe because my previous bag of chemi-pure was at the end of it's life cycle? I cleaned the glass, so I'll check tomorrow to see if it stays clean, but let me know why...

    Top on aquarium

When I bought my tank 10 years ago from a reputable, large LFS in the Charlotte area, it came with a 3 piece cover that completely sealed the tank. No one told me not to close it, so I assumed closing it tight kept out dust or something (my previous tanks had HOB filters so I always had proper...

What's that fine whitish film on aquarium glass?

Every day a fine film, whitish rather than brown or green, appears on the inside of my tank. When you view the tank from the front it's really hardly noticeable, although I do clean it off daily. After a week I imagine it might cloud the tank's appearance. I thought from my previous experience...

Phosphate Problem I cant seem to fix

Better than bio-pellets in a phosban reactor?

Phosphate Problem I cant seem to fix

Even when I was using the hot water in a cup method I meticulously poured out as much water as possible without losing too much shrimp, which took forever. Hence my purchase of the strainer. btw if you go the strainer route make sure to rinse it in tap water and dry it, or else it will start to...

Need a response ASAP re: Moorish Idols

Moorish Idols need OTHER Moorish Idols, not second rate Moorish Idols. I'm aggravated because this is ALWAYS the quality of response I get here.

Need a response ASAP re: Moorish Idols

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? No wonder there's so little activity here. I've already GOT the Moorish Idol (who, btw, is doing great right now). Of what use is it to me to tell me about other "similar" fish, which you can't even spell correctly. It's Heniochus, FYI. Either answer my...

Need a response ASAP re: Moorish Idols

Yeah, I was gonna add don't tell me not to buy Moorish Idols. I know all about them, but this one was such a perfect specimen, trying to eat bubbles at the top of the tank, and ate the food the LFS guy put in the tank. I figured I'd give him a shot. Kept them before, not a novice. But, next time...

Phosphate Problem I cant seem to fix

Yeah, you can buy a small strainer at any supermarket for like $1.95 or so. Make sure to drain away whatever tap water is left. I always try to put as little tap water into my tank as possible. Normally I'll add vitamins to my frozen mysis and the time it takes to soak in usually allows most if...
