So since I don't have a director for the Hydra light, I've been leaving the lights on at 40% for about 16 hours per day. There is a little algae starting to develop. Maybe one day soon I will get it, but for now I'm working on another project. Another water change scheduled for this evening...

Apparently a four gallon water change in a 29g tank every other day wasn't keeping up with the calcium and alkalinity demand with that salt mix. I've been having to manually dose to keep my levels up.

So the good news is that with the new LED light, I am seeing some pretty awesome growth on my SPS corals. The most interesting part that I have seen is that the brown algae from the last light I was using is going away, but now I am seeing traces of hair algae on the sandbed. I'm going to siphon...

I'd also like to add that a 55g is pretty tall for a sump, so when you build your stand, I suggest building it tall so you have enough clearance to work in there.
