    Coraline algae

Calcium, alkalinity, magnesium are all important, so is low phosphate levels. Scrub a rock, have adequate lighting and you'll be set. Happy reefing.

    Back to basics- 29g adventure

I guess tackling the RO DI problem was a big challenge for me. But, I had to do it mainly for decent top off water and for good filtered water for the baby bottles. Oh, despite the water quality being pretty low, one of the acros is doing really well, encrusting and even growing blue tips. I...

    Back to basics- 29g adventure

So no one wants to buy the tank, so I decided to put some more money into it. Lol. Why do I keep punishing myself?! I went and bought all the supplies I needed to fix the RODI system. Bought new sediment filters, bought new carbon and DI resin. I flushed the membrane a good ten minutes. After...

    Zombie coral

Smooth red patches are cyanobateria colonies. You have a water quality problem. Increase filtration, use pure/filtered top off water, eliminate dead spots with an extra powerhead, and you may ultimately have to treat the tank with an antibiotic and a 50% water change. Have fun!

    Novahobbies official 110g rebuild thread

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Richard. I'm sure things will get better. We all have set backs, not only in our tanks, but in life. Just have to push through it and realize that there will be better days. I wish you well, my friend.

"Doesn't sound very tough to me"

Well, the US and many other countries are now experiencing blowback from 50+ years of interventions in the middle East. If you bomb and invade those countries long enough, you are no longer helping them liberate themselves. Unfortunately, a stable dictatorship is sometimes better then a fragile...

    RO vs RODI

My tap water TDS when I bought my unit was anywhere from 500 to 999+ and the filters lasted anywhere from two to three months... Then I moved and my tap water TDS sits at around 250 TDS and the water company does a chlorine burn three times a year, so I still have to replace my filters every...

    RO vs RODI

I would personally run one just in case there are any changes. If there is, then you should visibly see it as the DI resin changes color.

Need help purchasing Apex Neptune Products!

Apex is a great system. Yes, you can change stuff through your phone. I would go ahead and purchase the full apex and add your pH and salinity probes. There is a support forum online for the apex, but a lot of it is simple to set up and easy to manage. A few of us can also help you out with...

T5 lighting the best for reef tanks?

I've been completely LED for the last few years now. I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference, although a higher quality LED is almost a must... But you could almost spend that much on a six bulb T5 unit. And then the cost of yearly bulb replacements.., I just think that LEDs are a better...

    Water Quality Question

I like Hanna checkers. Calcium, alkalinity and phosphate are pretty much the only ones you need an absolutely accurate reading on. Others like ammonia, nitrite and pH are pretty insignificant after the tank cycles and stabilizes. It's not worth it, at least for me, to buy three...

    Water Quality Question

Don't waste your money on an ammonia Hanna checker. Just wait a minute and take a water sample to your LFS.
