Does this list look ok for fish ideas

Hi, Page 424 in the book says spiny puffer, not a porcupine puffer (Diodon holocanthus) .. but in brackets, it does say porcupineFISH, or balloon porcupinefish. Could it be two different types of puffer perhaps? The book is pretty reliable, but when it comes to hands on experience... I take the...

    I'm out 4 now.

I am breaking down my 90g today... I had thought of restarting the tank after the seahorses, but aside from a single Lemonpeel dwarf angelfish, I can't think of not one other fish I would want, I have been looking at fish for over a month, and absolutely nothing appeals to me. This morning I...

    Frozen Foods

Hi, I put the cube in a fish-net, and run water over it, this thaws the food and rinses it...then I feed the fish by pulling the net backwards in the water, releasing the food into the tank. Everyone has their own way to feed the fish. Phosphates are a problem with packaged food, so it needs to...

I trust the book, if it says minimum 75g, then your 90g is good. Stuff posted on the internet for fish info, isn't all that reliable. Unless somebody here on the site has had that fish, and knows it needs a 180g... I would stay with what the book says. My method: If I am not familiar with the...

Hi, I have to chime in here... It takes time for a fish to outgrow the tank. Then when you have to re-home it, that means disturbing everything in the tank to catch the fish. Stressing not only that fish, but every fish in there with it. The rock has been sitting during that time, and moving the...

LOL...SHHH Don't tell anyone, this site sells fish too ... It isn't good to mention buying from other stores on their site, when they sell the same fish. They most likely have the same supplier. I'm very glad you got that book, I hope it serves you as well as it has me.

I almost always purchase on-line, I like the guarantee. In a fish store, the moment you walk out the door, if the fish dies, it's on you.

Hi, It all depends on your budget and interests. A Saltwater tank is a personal choice. Find the critter that you really, really want...and build your tank around it (consider what that prize critter gets along with, similar water type needs, and so on) We are here to help you, but the...

Hi, None that I know of. I'm not really familiar with aggressive fish. I like for my fish to all get along, and not eat the CUC, since the CUC is what keeps the tank looking nice. Even non-aggressive schooling fish don't really school in a fish tank, there just isn't enough room like in the...

I love my 90g...not too small and not too large. All the equipment that went in my 55g that was then upgraded to the 75g...all fit, just needed more rock and sand. Once I got the 90g, I was satisfied.

    Problem With Damsel

Just wondering, how old are the damsels... Most don't show their true aggression for a about a year, one day they just decide to be evil. The one may be okay and not cause trouble, but the 3 may begin to kill each other off first, THEN start in on everything else in the tank with it. If your...

    Problem With Damsel

Hi, My GUESS: New fish had to establish his territory, and the damsel picked the wrong fish to mess with. Both of your fish choices are known bullies... about 6 months to a year, the damsels nasty disposition comes out. A 29g is pretty small for saltwater, sounds like a territory war.

Hi, The books do say that once in a blue moon, they may eat other food... it is not the norm. Sand sifting gobies also starve without fauna to feed on, but once in a while you can get one that eats fish food. If a fish is known to ONLY feed on a special diet, I go by that recommendation, and not...

LOL...Sweetie, why not concentrate on making sure your new pets are parasite free, via the use of a quarantine tank. If you want a parasite eating critter, cleaner shrimp are pretty cool...but aggressive fish usually like to eat them.

The cleaner wrasse eats parasites off of the other fish, then dies of starvation. Aggressive fish and dusters...it depends on what fish. Some fish eat duster worms and other inverts. You have to research each fish and find out it's needs, and if it will make a good fit in your tank. Get the book...

I will have to try that! Thanks Dangerfish, This is a 75g tank??? Figure two good sized fish, and maybe two small guys.... EXAMPLE: Foxface, Humu, dwarf angel....... and maybe a goby, or two clowns, or a basselt or Royal Gramma. Humu is okay for the 75g but it grows to be almost 10 inches. The...

Hi, I haven't read all the thread... Here is IMO the best way to stock your tank for fish. Pick out the fish you want the most, that must have critter that got you into Saltwater in the first place. Build your tank, and list around that. Always purchase critters suitable for your size tank, as...

Questions about algae and suggestions for tank

Hi, You need a better CUC (Clean Up Crew) then a few hermits, you should have a variety of snails, and maybe a serpent or brittle star. I personally don't clean the back wall, some do...it really depends on you, beneficial???... besides less work, no. For added color or texture to your tank...

Tank crash and I can't find the trigger, heartbroken

Hi, Is it possible for the little darling to have put something into the tank? Most tanks are tall, but kids are climbers. I ask because I had my grandson put a weenie, bun with catsup and all, into my tank once... after that he did stuff to the tank it seemed every time I had my back turned...

Tank crash and I can't find the trigger, heartbroken

So sorry to hear of your ordeal. The broken heater could have zapped the tanks water. I had a heater break, zapped the tank, next day my serpent star lost it's legs as it moved across the tank, it was heartbreaking to see. Only the critters in and on the rock were affected (fish swimming were...
