Goby or something eating Coco Worm?

Hi, LOL...Everything I know about Coco worms: They can't handle nitrate levels well at all, or that kick ich medicine. If you don't have enough food for it to feed on, they will lose their crown, and it will grow back smaller and smaller. Most critters that upset the worm, don't nip at the...

    Just looking for some insight...

Hi, Welcome to the site! Two inches of sand is IMO the best choice, unless you plan on critters that require a deeper sand bed. I wouldn't mix crushed coral with the sand, or use it at all...it's too hard for the CUC (clean up crew, of snails and such) to clean. The best thing to do right now...

    My own newbie thread

Hi, My Golden sleeper head goby couldn't eat after a few days when the fauna had been depleted. I was told it would not never be able to recover since, sand sifters need the fauna to live, and eat constantly. Once it began to starve, it actually got a sunken tummy because it kind of fed in on...

    My own newbie thread

Too many critters at once.... Means too many CUC members to be added to a new system at one time. The people who feed algae sheets have (at least I hope so) an established system, the sheets just supplement, it's not be their only source of food. Your plan is to completely feed all those algae...

    My own newbie thread

That is way too many urchins! In a new system.... you will have a hard time to keep even one alive. Sell them to a pet store, before they starve... I had one long spine urchin and all kinds of algae in an established system... after 6 months it was out of food and it's spines began to fall out...

    My own newbie thread

I have never purchased an Astrea snail, so I have no experience with them. Their shells are the nicer looking. All I know about them is that they have to be uprighted if they fall over...If I had been told they seldom flip over, it would have maybe made a difference in my opinion on keeping...

    YWG disappeared

Not seeing a fish in 2 years...that's really bad. That happened with a fire shrimp I had...we were taking out rock and it fell off onto the floor...quick scoop and he was okay...I hadn't seen that critter for years either

    YWG disappeared

Okay...I admit I don't do much text talk...what is a YWG...LOL..I assume something yellow...G for goby? since it hides in a cave? Many fish get a little shy when a new one is introduced...but a firefish is usually not that kind of fish to hide from. If you have a good CUC...you won't find a...

You sure seemed miffed at me... we all have our opinions, but you seemed upset with me. If all is well, then that's all that matters. My response was a little mean too...sorry

    What is the next step

I'm not familiar with the brand...it looks really different (tube on top...?) It's just that he surface seems really calm for a reef, so I felt I should say something...excuse the mistake. I have a stick with a plastic ribbon I attached, I place it in different areas of the tank so I will know...

    My own newbie thread

I really don't get why you want to bite my head off... I just don't think certain critters should be in a fish tank because we can't keep them alive. Flame scallops came to mind, and a snail not designed for crawling on glass and land up turned over and dying shouldn't either. It's just an...

    What is the next step

Hi, Power heads... I don't see any in your tank. You need good strong water flow, the water surface should almost look like it's boiling. The wave is the life of the ocean, and your saltwater tank. Corals can't hunt for food, they wait for food to flow to them, the flow also helps certain...

    My own newbie thread

UMMM....Turning over if you fall down...exactly how is that simply a problem in an aquarium? Exactly how in the ocean do they manage to turn themselves upright, or manage to never get flipped over? I don't sit back and watch anything die. I don't buy Astrea snails, nor flame scallops. Some...

    Impossible to eradicate !!!

I found this information, maybe understanding it will help get rid of it: Although species of Caulerpa can be beneficial, they have several disadvantages. Caulerpa is a very fast grower that can quickly outgrow its environment and become a nuisance in any aquarium. In the reef aquarium...

    Impossible to eradicate !!!

Hi, Macros need nasty stuff like nitrates and phosphates to grow, and tea cup macro (Pegasus is correct on species) also needs an abundance of calcium. It won't do any good to test for the nasty stuff, since the macro is feeding on it, and you will get a false negative test reading. Your tank...

    I messed up...

Just want to make something very clear. The CAUSE was not your coral banded shrimp. The CAUSE is a parasite that your display tank was exposed to. Stressed fish may succumb to the parasite faster, but stress does not CAUSE ich. If you quarantine all new fish, you could have prevented the problem.

    Xenia Coral

Hi, How old are your lights? Years ago my Xenia shrank to a pool of mushy goo because the bulbs were old...but as soon as the light bulbs were replaced, tiny little xenia popped up where the goo pool was. It grew into one of the most beautiful colonies I ever had. Also it will help to turn the...

    Red Grass On LR?

Hi, It's the start of some kind of macroalgae, too early to identify the species. if you have tangs, they will eat it (free food!). Macroalgae is good for the tank, however it can get out of hand if you don't keep it pruned back (called harvesting) and as you prune it back you remove nasty...
