    IMO agree its cyano and diatoms. again IMO just backing off of the lights will not do it. you need to cover your tank completely to block off all light

    It could be one of the reasons you mentioned it could be all of the reasons you mentioned or any combinations of them. Sometimes fish just die in our closed systems. In your case with so many things going on it is impossible to pin point the reason. I am sorry for your loss.

    I can’t see throwing away money. Any drug store has Povidone Iodine 10% solution for half the price. And you make your own solution mix it with water until it’s the color of weak tea. One 8fl oz. bottle will last you forever

    I would go with a 4 stage filter. check your water pressure to make sure you don't need a pump. Buy a TDS meter to tell you when you are loosing efficiency AND all unites will eventually need their cartridges replaced.
