    Dealing with the uglies

Just my own .,02 you are always going to encounter cyano at sometime as long as you maintain a tank. its something we have to live with, I would not black out the tank unless you are really going to do a black out. no lights and cover the tank so there is no ambient light. FYI In tropical...

    Dealing with the uglies

Before we condemn Cyano as the scourge of our tanks lets read this Cyanobacteria Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are microorganisms that structurally resemble bacteria (they lack a nucleus and organelles ). However, unlike other bacteria, cyanobacteria contain chlorophyll a and conduct oxygenic...

    5g reef

My .02 if i was starting a pico tank I would look into the Blastomussa coral on the low end of the price range they make a beautiful addition to a small tank. BUT they do like low light so in an area shaded by your rockwork they are eye poppers. Another “trick “I like to employ when placing...

    5g reef

Small tanks tend to have less evaporation due to the smaller surface area and surface water movement that's why IMO a top off is not necessary unless you are planing on leaving the tank unattended for a long period of time.

    Dealing with the uglies

If you are talking about the cyano it depends on how diligent you are at syphoning it off. As it is bacteria and not algae it can take over a tank in a short period of time. One more thing about cyano. People say that it only appears in areas of low flow. I personally found that to be NOT true...

    120 gallon upgrade, sort of

Just My .02 Not really sure what your concern about the Hippo is. If it’s the tank size, you need to remember when you read the maximum size a fish gets online. That is the size of wild caught fish. Not the size that a fish has grown to in a closed system. I personally have had GREAT success...

    An old timer’s suggestion.

It helps if you slowly set up your tank over time with the space needed for the dividers then there is not so much disruption when you need them placed in your tank

    An old timer’s suggestion # 2

Another old timer trick. When wanting to get a closer look at a fish for illness. Buy one of those large novelty wine glasses. Put your fish in the glass (with tank water of course) now you have a captive subject that is magnified

    An old timer’s suggestion.

At one time or another we all experience the frustration of trying to catch a fish and remove it from our tank. What I have done is divide my tank into four equal spaces. I position my rock-work so that I can place pieces of egg crate cut to size in to my tank. I how have a tank that is ¼ the...
