Porcupine Puffer AND Spiny Box Puffer

I would think their could be some issues with aggression since they have similar appearances.

    Black Damsel fish

Since they can get up to 6” in captivity the one may just be a late bloomer.

    Lighting!!!!

Anemones need a ton of the correct light. More than most coral. If you have plenty of live rock you shouldn’t need a filter. I’d choose the skimmer. Just be sure it is a good one. The HOB skimmers are harder to dial in just right. I had good luck with the reef octopus HOB.

QT update and CUC QT questions?

I buy my cuc from a vendor that ha s no fish, so the risk of no QT is minimal..

    Salinity help!

Give it a day or so with your power heads running then if it is still low slowly add salt. This is the only time you can add salt directly to the tank. How are you measuring salinity? If you aren’t using a refractometer buy one and calibration solution. BRS has good ones with calibration...

    Mangroves? Invertebrates?

QT should always be bare bottom. Plastic plant is fine but you need something for them to hide in. Reef fish hide. Most use PVC elbows as hiding places. I have a couple cheesy aquarium decor pieces, a castle and pyramid that I use. Everything in QT needs to be easy to decontaminate and can’t...

    need some help

If you haven’t added any new fish in the last few weeks it could maybe be oxygen levels, increase circulation and make sure your tank isn’t covered. As the temp goes up less O2 can dissolve in water, this is why there are some times fish die offs in lakes during hot summer months. at 80 it is...

    New tank need advice

Live sand isn’t necessarily or necessarily beneficial depending on how it is stored prior to you getting it. Dry is what I would have used just couldn’t get the grain size I wanted.

    New tank need advice

You will get some gasses (sulfur based especially)in the lower part of any sand bed. This is where the anaerobic bacteria live, part of the ecosystem.. They are good that is where nitrate is broken down. You don’t want to vacuum your sand because it will bring this to the surface. Coarse...

    Mangroves? Invertebrates?

Sounds like a pretty good plan. Add the pistol shrimp and goby together. You can often buy them that way. If your inverts come from a place that has no fish in their tanks, no need to QT them. I have a specific place I get them for that reason. I’d also read up on the various fish...

    Using Sea water

Rocs from the ocean aren’t worth it. Many places where there are thriving reefs it is illegal to collect rock. The drying process will kill good and bad stuff. Much of the cool stuff won’t survive in an aquarium anyway. You are better off getting some dry rock from a retailer, and adding a...

    Using Sea water

No to seawater unless you have access to 2 micron filters to get the bacteria, and parasites out of it. It would have to be seawater consistent with where the fish come from and collected away from shore where the pollutants are. Say you lived on a Caribbean island and had a boat so you could...

    New tank need advice

I don’t like super fine sand it tends to be messy. I use coarser sand. The nasarius snails will keep the under sand area stirred up. They dissappear under the sand then you feed the fish and they come up from under the sand quite amusing to watch.. Other types of snails will get the glass and...

    Mangroves? Invertebrates?

Snails and hermits can go in before fish when the cycle is done. The rest you need to wait.

    Mangroves? Invertebrates?

Good for you not cycling with fish and NOT listening to the fish store. Mangroves are interesting plants. Not likely to be a big help in keeping tank clean at least initially, I don’t like to add macro algae because it slows the cycling down but mangroves are different. The cycle will be...

    Beginners Questions

I wouldn’t wait to upgrade. A 20 isn’t very expensive (probably the cheapest thing in the set up) and will make the likelihood of success much greater. Use the 10 gallon with a sponge filter and some PVS pipe as a quarantine tank. You want to quarantine the fish for 30 days prior to adding it...

    What?

Snail eggs. I’ve never had them hatch and survive. You have a fairly large aptasia in there on the bottom right corner you might want to take care of.

    dehumidifier

I have my sump in a small room in my basement. Mines smaller but so is the room. I have a large part of the sump covered to keep humidity down. I don’t see why a dehumidifier wouldn’t help.
