    Maxi Jet 900

Suction cups suck... or rather they don't over time. Lol. But you can get a magnetic holder for it and won't have that people anymore.

    Power Head Placement

It will be very hard to determine if your flow is adequate by describing it. You want good flow across the whole tank but the main thing you want is to avoid having any "dead spots" in the tank. But only you will be able to know for certain. There are several ways you can find out. Like tying a...

First SPS trial was a success...

Congratulations on the SPS by the way. I'll be following suit shortly. Good luck!

First SPS trial was a success...

Usually corals will expel their zooxanthellae when the water gets too warm. You think it may have gotten too hot with the heat packs in shipping? Or maybe it was already like that. Just a thought. Although several things can cause bleaching even stress. But I think it would be too high of light...

    New to site and question

It probably helped that I had about 3 inches of crushed coral. But the nice thing about that setup was the copepod/amhipod population. The crushed coral with the detritus in it fed them all and kept them safe. It was littered with pods in the bed. Perfect for the Green Mandarin I had back then...

    MY FISH KEEP DYING!

Say whaaat? lol. Are you doing some mid afternoon drinking fishkiller?

Ya know... maybe it was just the depth of the gravel. And the even weight distribution across the tank because when I shut it down and pulled everything out it wasn't broken at all... and I have always been overly heavy on live rock in almost all of my tanks. On that one I had rock almost up to...

    MY FISH KEEP DYING!

And if you did fully cycle your tank the presence of nitrite would tell me that you just added too much too soon. It takes a while for the beneficial bacteria to catch up to the bio load on the tank. So always try to add new livestock slowly so that it can keep up.

    MY FISH KEEP DYING!

Well you definitely don't want to put fish or corals in a tank that's not cycled. You shouldn't have nitrites. But fish are going to be more sensitive than corals in higher salinity. Yours seems a little high in my opinion. Drop it to 1.025. Also test the salinity from the fish store the fish...

Royal Gramma Died in QT, dont know why.

Yeah agreed. You want to cycle the QT the same as you would the DT. Don't add any fish to either until fully cycled and fish ready. Some people keep their QT'S free of sand and rock kinda like a "hospital tank" with a pvc tube for the fish to hide and feel comfortable. Depending upon the filter...

has anyone ever created a planted saltwater tank?

I've always had the most success with regular florescent lighting for most macros I've had. Especially shaving brush. And if it's a fish only tank you don't need anything fancy. For a lot of them just a plain old plant and aquarium bulb will do just fine.

Lol. Lets not chastise the guy or make him feel unwelcome. I successfully ran an under gravel filter in my 90 gallon for years. Using crushed coral as the substrate in a fish only with live rock tank. Although I must add that I also used a protein skimmer, a canister filter and a UV sterilizer...

    new 125 gal

Yeah then I wouldn't worry about it or do anything... use it all. And add more sand for the new tank. Congrats on the upgrade!

    new 125 gal

How big is your old tank? As far as "rinsing" your old sand. I wouldn't bother with it unless it is a very old and very deep and dirty bed. Even then I'd attention to clean it in the old tank by stirring it up to remove detritus. But if it seems fairly clean then I wouldn't bother with it. It...

Does carol need to feed food

Even if you're not "spot feeding", if you are dumping food in your tank for fish and other inverts you are likely adding small particulate matter that's too small for your fish to eat. Even if it is not your intention to feed your corals directly you are likely doing it anyways.

Does carol need to feed food

Agreed. Video was very poor. No offense to its maker. At least they took the time to make something and share their opinion. That takes effort. That being said, yes it is hard to keep your levels where you want them with the presence of extra nutrients and waste. But that's what modern day reef...

    High Salinity

Yes what Pegasus and Flower said. I can't imagine how your salinity ever got so high... but you don't need to use a reduced salinity/newly mixed saltwater batch to lower your salinity. You need to get it lowered faster than that.... again... you can reduce your salinity without negative impact...

Nostalgia... Cause sometimes it's the little things.

They can be glued to live rock. But looking the skeleton it's very flat on the bottom and sits nicely on the sand bed. And yes @pegasus My lighting in this tank is insufficient to say the least. I do think it stretches up in an attempt to get more light but I have also noticed the growth over...
