Eh, more chance for leaks and more money and more time getting a new tank established. I think it would just be easier to keep this tank going. I'm happy with it and it is doing really, really well.
It looks like I'll be going by the fish store today after getting some groceries. I'm excited...
Everything is still living. Lol.
Going to do a water change in the morning. I might find myself at the fish store tomorrow. And the pawn shop. Lol.
I havent cleaned the front glass in a week and it was starting to grow coralline.
I'm still keeping up with the kalkwasser dosing. It's...
50/50 chance.
Shall wait and see!
Also, don't add that many fish at one time. Add peaceful fish first, then progressively more aggressive. One or two at a time.
Other things to check is temperature, ammonia, nitrate and pH as the tank keeps cycling.
I definitely wouldnt try a 20g sump on an 80g tank. A 55g may not fit under your stand. Try to put it under your tank before you make it into a sump and do all that work.
Three chambers is plenty, usually people have a filter sock or two in the first section with a protein skimmer and then the...
I put it in storage. I got a ton of fish supplies that I have to find room for somewhere. They are still in my car.
I don't think I want to set up the new tank after all. It's a perfect size for the wall, but I don't want to spend more money setting it up.
Tore down the dentist tank. The tank is 36". I might end up setting it up. It has an overflow and a nice manufactured sump. It needs a new stand and the lfs is selling one for under $200. Decisions decisions.
A local dentist office is giving me their 46g bowfront tank. I'm having to decide if I want to set up the new tank as my own or sell it off. Or part it out. Ah, decisions.
A mechanical filter removes particulates in the water column. It's not extremely necessary if your refugium has a slow enough flow where the detritus settles out.
Cooling the bulbs and ballast is a good start. Usually ballasts are mounted on the top of a canopy on the outside.
Adding fans should help, but I would double check the wiring just to be sure.
I buy the sediment filters from walmart and I get the DI resin and bulk carbon refills from bulk reef supply. Then my water softener filter I get from airwaterice. I like the refills, seems to save money in the long run.
That's cool. Mine is sitting at 7. I'll change it out when it hits 10. My system has eight filters, so its more work to change them. Lol
Good job though, testing and staying vigilant.
I personally prefer Marineland Emperor series filters. The 280 is up to a 40g tank and the 400 is up to a 90g I think. I have a Emperor 400 on my 29g reef and it does great. The filters are about $4 each and I really like the media trays.
