    Whole house water filter?

I had a 15 x 30ft pool, it had the big sand filter. All it did was get the big stuff out, the stuff that makes the water brown didn't change...water has more then just big stuff to be that color. I don't think it would clear it up without some kind of extra chemical, I put bleach in the pool...

Hi, It should be obvious by now...you will get a different answer with each person who comments. That's because we have all developed our own way that works for us. The best we can do is tell you what WE would do ourselves, and you get to pick what will work best for you. On my 90g I always...

    who would divorce?

Oh Sweetie, Wives just don't appreciate things sometimes until the project is completed, that's all I meant. The money thing kind of hit a cord with me, so I went off and vented a bit. Not me, but my best friend...her husband always hangs his money over her head because he is the bread winner...

Wives don't thank their husbands until the work is completed, then they make a big affair of all the hard work you put in...Telling you how good it looks and all the hard work you put in. Kind of a women are from Venus, and men are from Mars kind of thing. Do you thank your wife every time she...

    Help Help please help!!

Just jumping in...Leathers like lots of water flow, it helps them shed their "skin" so they don't get clogged with algae. If you don't have enough flow, algae grows and clogs them up.

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

Very interesting.... I was using the term filter feeder only for the group that feeds on the smallest organisms. I never cease to learn from this site. Thank you, and you dummied it down enough for me to understand it too.:)

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

Golf coast ecosystems sells macros... when you click on a macro it tells you if it needs bright lights, the lower light ones require 6500k (sorry I added a w before), but according to the macroalgae book they need at least a grow light. At any rate I'm not an expert, and folks have posted that...

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

I understand, and after looking it up...GHA is a microalgae, not a macro, I am guilty of grouping them all together. That being said... hair algae can not grow without phosphates, nitrates and all the other nasty stuff we don't want in our water, if that is eliminated from the system the GHA...

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

There are a corals that just don't do well in pristine water conditions. Elegance, mushrooms and Xenia to name a few. There are indeed many reasons a coral doesn't do well. I couldn't keep clove coral alive in my tank to save my life. I'm going to stick by my first opinion on the macros. If...

    Starfish?

We are not allowed to post links from other sites...obvious reasons. Just google on-line, micro-stars and Asterina stars live on live rock, and that's usually were we get them...One site that sells them are asking $25.00 for 4 of them, which is outrageous. Your best bet is to ask a friend who...

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

You have to have dirty water to grow macros, besides the light of at least 6500. They feed on the nasty stuff in the water, Nitrates, phosphates, ammonia and nitrites, which is why folks want macroalgae in the refugium, to feed on it, and then remove it from the system by harvesting the macros...

    Starfish?

Microstars, but you would never see them, they stay in the rocks... but they are great tiny little scavengers, for keeping your teeny little reef healthy.

    At a lost...

They were on a talk show once... The guy said the fish are added later after the cycle, it is just an illusion that they add the fish right away for the shows sake, they edit out time so they can show the finished product. They were asked if they realized that they misguided other people...

    At a lost...

Sorry...I just have to jump in here! Some fish means more then one to top it all off. Even after a tank is cycled ONLY ONE fish at a time, and preferably after a quarantine period of 4 weeks. No way will adding living bacteria cycle your tank enough so that you can add SOME fish the very next...

Animal hording is indeed a real disorder. You should seek professional help for her. Most animal hording goes unnoticed until the animals become so overwhelming in number, they are no longer properly cared for. Then they become sick, or malnourished, and animal control steps in. You don't want...

Hey there feeling confused by all the info

Hi, Jumping in with the cat issue. Cats like to jump up and lay on places up high. Be prepared, kitty's will no doubt try and jump up on the tank. Because it's open, they will be in for a dip and freak out. Usually one dip is enough to teach them the tank is open water, and to not do it again...

    White micro

If your water is cloudy, the light is diminished in the tank, so the tiny critters that usually come out at night are out in the day time. As for cloudy water, is it green cloudy or white cloudy...do you run a skimmer?

    water changes

Hello, I don't think it's wise to go by inches of fish, or the number...what determines the fish for your tank should be the needs of each fish. Saltwater fish are territorial and they need their space, cramp them and they get evil to each other. A small juvenile may be just fine for a bit, but...
