tank rim not flush with stand?

I am not a builder, but a gap right in the center...no way, sand that thing till it's even. Considering all the weight in a saltwater tank, and the whole thing is held together with silicone on the edges. I would no way trust that stand.

    Mixing dwarf angels

Most on-line places will not sell you more then one dwarf angel at one time, they call to verify that they will not be going into the same tank. They are not iffy...they are deadly to each other. They are very active, swimming all over the tank, and a 93g tank just isn't large enough for them to...

    water changes

Lots of new members sign up, have their say and never return. At least he didn't ask a question and leave us hanging as most who do that do. It wasn't a total bust...this thread at least confirmed that water changes are needed, and why sometimes it can go wrong, and a few reasons why.

    water changes

Some containers leak certain chemicals, and are not good to ever use. If a bucket was ever used for anything besides fish, there could be residue from that (ask other family members if they use your fish buckets), since plastic absorbs and holds elements from what was ever put in it. If your...

Novahobbies' 37g column tank reset build

You could boil the rock and keep it for base rock... I wouldn't just throw it out.

    water changes

Hi, What kind of water did you top off with, RO (reverse Osmosis) or tap water? What kind of container did you use to hold your water...mixed and fresh before mixing? How long did you churn the new mixed saltwater before you used it? There are lots of reasons you can do damage during top off or...

    water changes

Hi welcome to the site! I also kept freshwater fish for 30+ years, before going saltwater. Pegasus is correct, it's a whole different world. You can indeed overcome nitrites and nitrates in a freshwater system, and I have never in my life killed a fish doing water changes. I even have emptied...

Cant figure out cause of green hair algae on sand...test done.

Hi, You are getting a false reading on your phosphates, and nitrates, the nuisance algae is feeding on it. Hair algae is a macroalgae, it is the nature of macros to absorbs and feed on the nasty stuff in your water, ammonia, phosphates, nitrites and nitrates, even iron...hair algae may look...

    Returning Aquatic Enthusiast

Hi, Yes it's true...the larger the tank the easier it is to keep stable. A 30g tank will hold one pair of seahorses, the 56g will hold two pairs. Seahorses are vertical swimmers, so the tall tanks are best for them, since you said you want to breed them, Erectus is easier then Kuda, they hitch...

    Returning Aquatic Enthusiast

Hello, and welcome to the site. I am no expert...but I do keep seahorses. When it comes to keeping seahorses, things have taken a great leap forward! They were considered hard to keep because they had to have live food. The only seahorses that has to eat live newly hatched baby brine shrimp are...

    Hobby or money pit?

Better then TV! That's the smart way, selling everything at rock bottom prices, it hurts to think all the money spent, and hunting for just the right piece of equipment sells for so little. Then to have to repurchase it all back at top dollar, because lets face the hard truth...you know you...

    Feeding Fish

Hi, I have seahorses, they are slow eaters so I turn off the pumps while they feed... fish like to chase/hunt their food down, so for regular fish I don't. There is more for your fish to eat besides what you feed them, live rock is loaded with little critters and bits of algae growth. I'm sure...

    Hobby or money pit?

LOL..I have a little over 400 square feet ...So it's a little, little house. I have my 47" flat screen TV mounted on the wall, and a 90g tank in the living room(takes up a whole wall). The book case sits just under the TV... so I had room for a sofa (at first I thought not, but the bookcase fit)...

    Novahobbies official 110g rebuild thread

LOL...I love the way you word things, there is always so much joy, even when things are not going so great. Love the coral, I know the picture doesn't do it justice. LOL...I just noticed what you wrote where a quote of the day should be (don't know what else to call it)...I am so opinionated, I...

    Hobby or money pit?

I would wait until the move at least...THEN you can see the space you have and decide on what size tank. I have moved often over the years...moving a fish tank is lots of extra work, and I always built my home around the tank. I would do without a sofa rather then to let my tank go, I have...

    New SW Aquarium 1st timer....troubles!!

I would not trust that LFS... A fish that had been stressed from a return, then re-bagged and taken to your tank that wasn't cycled, had no strength to tolerate any ammonia. The idea behind using a damsel to cycle with, is because they are usually hardy enough to endure the new tank cycle, a...

    Question for my buds

API test kits are not reliable, that is the test kits my LFS uses. I would purchase my own tests kits, master kits are cheaper then individually. You shouldn't have any nitrites, if you do then you do have ammonia someplace, and if you know you are overfeeding...LOL.. Stop it, stop it right now...

    Coralline Algae by the Bottle?

Maybe so...but Purple up and Purple tech both direct to test calcium levels before dosing....IMO it's a waste of money

    Coralline Algae by the Bottle?

Hello, Purple tech, Purple up ... They only work if you have low calcium, and Only if your tank already has a rock with coralline on them. Coraline needs the calcium to be at 450 to 500, that's why it says on the bottle to test your calcium levels before use. Regular calcium supplement is...
