Does this sound like a good idea? Cleaning a DSB for future use.

I have successfully harvested the top 1/2" of a DSB in the past. 90% of the sand bed animals live in the top 1/2". I would not try to keep any more than that other than cherry picking desirable animals AFTER scraping out the 1/2". Do not stir.

No clean up crew no Inverts mean dirty tank?

Starboard - it's a brand of cutting board that you can buy to size and cut it to fit your aquarium. It gives a nice clean appearance without sand.

OK, mix it to a salinity of 35ppt and let it sit uncovered for several hours before testing the PH.

ohhhh after adding salt. How long after you mixed the salt did you test the PH? How do you mix your saltwater?

The PH of RO water is irrelevant. Phosphate and Nitrate would be the only concern.

Do you have access to the analysis of the product water? Phosphate and Nitrate levels would be my only concern. If those are low then I think it would be perfectly fine water to use.

    Help. Tank lighting

For tall column tanks MH is a good option. Something like a 250 watt HQI 14,000K.

    Question about new setup?

I always enjoyed watching this guy. He could thrive in a 55.

    Question about new setup?

55 is not a small tank. The dimensions are a bit awkward but it's not small. The Turbin Snail cannot eat algae sheets. It can live quite some time without food, probably long enough until you have plenty for it, or a dozen, to eat. Good that you started with one. The ammonia spike happened...

    Do I need a sump/refugium?

The death of an Anemone often results in it releasing lots of unfired nematocysts. These seem to decompose slower than the rest of the Anemone for some reason. The result is that carbon will not pick the nematocysts out of the water column. Luckily, skimmers seem to pull them out fairly...

None of the Caulerpas require a sand bed. Most of them grow best with their holdfasts connected to live rock though.

At least twice the light you have. Three time that amount would be better.

Anemone in parents tank shriveled up!help!

There's not enough light for this animal but that wouldn't make it decline quite that fast. Let us know how it looks tomorrow.

You're not providing any of the numbers I asked for so I can't help much. Hopefully what Flower said is true and it's just eliminating waste.

    Heater - a close call

The problem with a single large heater is that if it fails "off" your tank water goes from 78 down to 69 overnight. If it fails "on" your tank water goes from 78 to 92 overnight.

    Heater - a close call

A pair of 300 watt JBJ titanium heaters. They're pricey though. The Won Brothers titanium would be a less expensive alternative. Again, a pair of them.
