I have little idea about the constitution of a SUMP: I heard you can use a ten gallon tank and a protein skimmer, air pump, hoses and possibly a UV sterilizer. Describe the makeup of your SUMP. I've yet to come across a book that talks about it.

I've been told conflicting things: that's it's a good benefit to acquire a protein skimmer; or, protein skimmers are mainly required for reef tanks not necessarily FO. What is your opinion?
