    Stupid question...Stinging??

I like those as well. I have a green bubble tip in my tank though because they don't tend to get as large. You will find that there is a ton of research out there on the care of anemones and their relationships with clownfish. You will probably change your mind about 20 times before you finally...

    Stupid question...Stinging??

Not like you would think. To you and I they would feel sticky and their tentacles will stick to your skin. A fish is much smaller and therefore can be hurt and/or killed by one. The only anemone that I know of that we typically keep in our aquariums that can actually attack a human is a large...

Why are air bubbles bad for a saltwater tank?

    hlcroghan's 29 gallon thread......

I suppose you are right..:) I really think it has more to do with the individual fish than my expertise though lol. He was eating brine prior to my purchase. I also don't count him as a success yet. I want to try and reach a year before I say that I successfully keep a mandarin in a 29 gallon...

    hlcroghan's 29 gallon thread......

LOL, I have anwered this question so many times, I almost laugh now when someone asks. I love talking about Sparky though so ask away! I don't have a fuge and I only add pods maybe once a month. I was very lucky when I bought him that he really likes frozen foods. I feed him a varied diet of...

    Help Anemone attacked by Crab??

I suppose it's possible but I am going to say it's probably something else. Most anemones will not make it with a torn column unfortunately. What other livestock do you have in your tank? If it looks like it is starting to melt or anything like that then you know that it is dying. Try getting it...

    hlcroghan's 29 gallon thread......

Thought I would post some updates on my tank. Everything is still doing well. I will try to get some pics up tonight since I would like to see the differences in the growth myself. Some addtitions are a yellow clown goby purple tipped frogpawn which had some dead areas and I am trying to nurse...

in over my head with new elos 215 gallon setup

If you are able to and it is in your budget there was a person on the boards that had automatic switches set up to do water changes for his tank. Basically he pushed a button and he would empty so much out of the tank and then he pushed another one and it would fill from his premixed salt water...

Just starting out and very overwhelmed!!

No. They won't mind it. You will see that salwater fish behave much differently than fresh. Saltwater fish actually sleep at night as opposed to fresh which just tend to still swim around. My mandarin lays on the bottom of the tank and looks like he is dead. I can actually pick him up and hold...

what do you think about this stock for 30g tank?

Definitely listen to what the people on here are telling you. It is very rare to find a mandarin that will eat frozen and the variety of it needed. The eggs you are talking about are ova. They are made by nutramar. They are out of stock until September as far as I know. And yes I do supplement...

Where can I put my Mandarin?

You are going to have to get him pods unfortunately. He may not make it. Not all of them can be trained onto frozen foods. You can order some off of this site and a lot of LFS sell live pods by the bottle. You should do it soon though.

Just starting out and very overwhelmed!!

Boy oh boy, I could post all day on this case. I feel so bad for you.....what a horrible fish store. Ok, I commend you for wanting seahorses but they are considered expert animals and difficult to care for for many reasons. You could PM Rykna when you are able to. She is an excellent person for...

what do you think about this stock for 30g tank?

To give you an idea of a stocklist, in my 29 gallon rectangle..... pair of false perculas 2 clown gobies 1 lawnmower blenny 1 mandarin dragonet (which everyone talked about already, bad idea for the most part) This is about the maximum bioload a 29 can take as far as fish are concerned. I could...

what do you think about this stock for 30g tank?

Well, the feather duster is not a fish so you don't have to count that in your inches. Honestly that is not a good formula anyway because you have to base it on the activity level of the fish and what they need to survive. As for the mandarin, meowzer is correct. I have one. Mine is in a 29...

How often do i feed my fish?

Well, I think once a day is fine. What I would critique WHAT you are feeding. You definitely need more variety for your fish. Especially the puffer who needs hard things to wear his teeth down. I woud add in krill, clam, silversides, and a frozen carnivore mix. Brine is almost more like a treat...

    Flame Hawkfish

Flame hawkfish are really cool. I think with those two fish they will be fine but they do eat shrimp so be careful if you have those. But...... I honestly believe that 24 gallon is way too small for one. I would go with a pixie hawkfish instead. Much smaller and similar personality.
