I meant the water level inside the skimmer. Do I just keep it at the level it is now once it's broken in? I have it about an inch above the red ring. By the way, love the skimmer, already pulling out stuff and my tank is only about 5 days old.

I like my digital thermometer. It calculates to a tenth of a degree. It was less than $20, so definitely worth it.

I also thought they were supposed to be beneficial to a tank. Is it just because of the size of it that made it undesirable?

I've heard it's good to fake feed when you feel your cycle is complete. Wouldn't this spike nitrate levels? I'm almost to this point, but am afraid of nitrates

It worked for me. As soon as the water level reached the hole, which was basically just below the surface of the water to begin with, and the overflow box that sits in the tank was above the water's surface also, no more water came in to the filter. It only filled it maybe about halfway or so.

If you post on the equipment forum, you may get some responses. There are some pretty genius tank builders there.
