    Showing Off

How does your coral beauty do with your corals? I had one that I really liked, but in the 2 months I had him he shredded my soft corals, and had to be taken back to the LFS.

    how to replenish sand?

I tried the funnel in the past and the live sand just clogs its up because of the moisture. I used a big cup and placed it on the bottom as gentle as I could. Cloudiness went away over night and didn't bother a thing.

What would you pay for this setup? 150 gal

The halides are definitely a big variable. If they are retro kits mounted inside a canopy, the cost can be relatively low, but ballasts and housings can significantly vary their worth.

    XM bulbs

Do you think their PAR gives enough penetration for a std. 55gal (2 pendants)? It doesn't look like Radium offers a 175w single-ended option, that I could find anyway.

is this a good protein skimmer???

I've used one for 2 use and it works pretty well. Cup fills up with dark green sludge about once a week, never needs adjusting, so it's pretty user friendly when used in a sump as opposed to hang-on.

    XM bulbs

I have used the 15K 175W XM's for the past 2 years and really like the color. Since I am relatively new (3 years) to the hobby, maybe SCSInet could expand on why he is disgusted wth them, and maybe that will lead me to a better option when it comes time to replace them in February.

    Bad Ballast?

Exactly. Electronic ballast all of a sudden will not power either lamp.

    Bad Ballast?

If I switch them back, the mag. ballast will power up the bulb the elec. ballast will not.

    Bad Ballast?

I have a Coral Vue 175W electronic ballast that I've been using for about a year and a half on a single-end mogul base pendant with an XM bulb. I have 2 of these pendants over my tank and they have run with no problems (the other pendant runs on a magnetic ballast). I noticed a few weeks ago...

Looks like pulsing xenia, some type of polyp, and some orange polyps. Not 100% sure what the middle one is, almost looks like the coral on the base of the rock could be a mushroom of some sort.
