get one from bulk reef supply air water ice filter guys put the names in a hat, and blindly pick one. They are all great companies and all the same price.

some brands, as sold by bulk reef are "It is all natural calcium carbonate rock mined from domestic sources" basically it is as you stated, dry rock that needs cycled.
