Could 90 where you originaly did accept install a T with a top pipe extended above water line and the bottom you will have to play with untill your bubbles are forced up instead of down. Will work if you keep the T below the water line as well as not too much flow.

Really don't need a lot of flow for your sump. Your skimmer as well as your fuge will run more efficient under lower flow. I judge good turnover by the surface of my display. Slowly increase flow untill surface water no longer maintains protiens. This advice was given to my while I was battling...
