Go to pricewatchDOTcom and look up ultra quiet fans for a computer, get the biggest fan you can get. Id also reccomend getting 2. If you want, ill tell you how to hook them up to a std wall outlet with a schematic.

Dont worry about only having 125 to spend. Excalibur makes excellent skimmers and they are very inexpensive. I spent 100 on mine for my 75 gallon, its an HOB (in sump versions available) and it includes the rio pump as well. THey are venturi skimmers, and made very well. Ive had mine for 7...
I have an Excalibur skimmer that i use on my 75G. Its a HOB, but they do make insump skimmers as well. These are locally built near my house and are very cheap. I think its about $110-130 for one for a 75gal. It includes a rio pump too. I like it, cheap, and works very well.

If you want to usecomputer fans all you need to get is a 12v AC-DC rectifier from Radio Shack.Cut the end plug off and and hard wire it to the leads of the computer fan. Simple, and cheap.

TimG... if you go to walmart or target in the electonics section they have adjustable AC-DC transformer boxes with a range of output voltages that you can select via a swtich. As long as you hook it up the right way, and have the correct output voltage, it should work fine. I say stay away from...
