    Dangers of corals

Did you say you have crushed coral in the bottom of your tank? I'm new at this myself but from what I have read you do have to clean CC regularly to keep your nitrates from shooting up to high. If I understand correctly, CC can trap detrius and that will make your nitrates to high over time...

Puffs of debris coming out of live rock?

Every once in a while I'll see a little puff of debris come out of my live rock. I've seen it happen in a couple different places, but it's always in the same places. Does anyone know what kind a little critter would be doing that? Thanks!

I have a 15 Gal tall tank with 96w PC's, 1.5" aragonite sandbed, 10 lbs live rock, 20 lbs base rock, Millenium 3000 HOB filter, and two powerheads. It's been setup since 4-2-07, so it's still cycling. This is what I would like to eventually have in my tank: Colt Coral Clove Polyps Frogspawn...

Water Change ? and a few other ???

Sorry for all the questions all at once! I have a 15 gal that I setup 1 week ago and it is currently cycling. I have a few questions. How often do I need to do a water change and how many gallons should I do at a time? At what point should I do my first water change? I'm using distilled...

Lighting for 15 Gal tall tank

Well I orderd a 18" SunPaq Retrofit 96 watt Quad SmartPaq today. It should be here in about a week. My tank is still cycling so it will be a while before I can get any corals. I don't want to be very limited on what I can put in there which is why I went with the 96 watts. I hope I'll be...

    Adding Corals

Thanks...I will check into it just to be on the safe side. I've only had the tank setup for a few days so taking it out now if need be won't be a problem. Also, can anyone suggest which one of these lights are better? I'm looking at either the 18" SUNPAQ RETRO 1X96 watt or the 18" Aqualight...

I'm not sure if that is what it is or not, but I will check with the fish store where I bought it and find out for sure.

    Adding Corals

I've added some pics. Please tell me what you think. I think I'm happy with the amount of rock I have in there now. I'm going to go ahead and see about ordering lights. I think i want the Coralife 18 Inch Aqualight Compact Fluorescent Retrofit Kit W/ 1-96W Quad 50/50 Lamp Square Pin. Does...

    Adding Corals

I've added 3 more pounds of live rock today which brings me to a total of 8 pounds of live rock and 20 pounds of base rock. That base rock will turn into live rock over time, right? Is that enough for now? I would like for my next investment to be the lights if the amount of live rock I have...

    Adding Corals

I want to eventually start adding some easy keeper corals to my tank. Is it necessary to start out with a lot of live rock or can I add that a little at a time along with corals? I have a 15 gal tall tank with about 20 lbs base rock, 5 lbs live rock, 2" sandbed (not live sand). I have two...

Lighting for 15 Gal tall tank

I was wondering with the height of the tank and using the 96 watts if I could put the corals that require lower light at the bottom of the tank and corals that need more light at the top of the tank? Or does that even matter? Or should I just go with a little lower wattage? Thanks for the answers!

Lighting for 15 Gal tall tank

I'm looking at getting a Coralife 20 Inch Aqualight With 1-96W 50/50 4-Tube Square Pin Base (with fans) for my 15 gallon tall tank. This tank has an enclosed wood hood so I'm kind of limited on space for lighting. My question is, will this amount of light work if I want to have corals? If...

15 Gal Tall (fish and inverts only) Tank

Hi. I'm working on setting up a 15 gallon tall tank at work for fish and inverts only. I've got a Marineland Millennium 3000 Wet/Dry HO Power Filter and two smaller (I can't remember the exact size at the moment) powerheads. I'm planning on putting about 2" of sand and probably about 10 or 15...
