I've read they are beneficial to the tank, but I'm finding a pretty large population in crevices. Should I be looking for something to control them, and if so, what eats them? I haven't been able to find anything on this yet.

Maybe Syconoid sponges?

It kinda looks like a glassy sea squirt, but it's not an exact match.You can see the round opening, only one opening on each that I can see. Am I right on the id, or is this something that needs to come out. Thanks

Thanks for all the quick replies! I'm still pretty new to this, I've only had the tank running about 1 1/2 yrs. I think it's a spaghetti worm. It's smooth, not segmented, doesn't really look like any type of bristle worm that I've seen. I haven't seen the body tho, it's hidden in the rock...

Since that little patch is all I have, I've just covered it with putty. Hopefully that will kill it and keep it from spreading.

Are they harmful to coral? If I need to get rid of them, what's the best way? I guess they must have came with that coral piece, its been in the tank for 3 months and this just started. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, they are purple with white tips.

Has anyone tried to make their own base rock? I've heard about it, mixing sand, crushed coral, and portland cement with or without rock salt. Then making a mold in sand and pouring the mix in. Does this work well? How many months on average before coralline algae is growing? Is it worth the...

Have you had any problems with micro bubbles? I just got one and it puts out a lot of bubbles, does it just take a few days to clear up?
