So what corals would you stay away from?

I just bought one at my local fish store and was told he will be ok in my reef tank. All I have reef wise is some mushrooms and some yellow polyps and a feather duster. I now read that these are not reef safe. Anyone have any experience with these in a reef tank? Thanks
