    ? on MH lighting

I'm looking at upgrading my lighting to MH. Do I need to have PC, VHO, or T-5 to supplement? Can I get a good balanced look of white and blue just using MH? TIA

    Corals getting ate

Over the past week my small clam, green and pink star polyps have gotten ate. The only things added recently are a brittle star and a red serpent star. My button polyps, xenia, mushrooms, kenya tree, zoos, toadstool, and colt haven't been touched. Any ideas?

    Springeri Dottyback

This is my latest addition. I've read they are reef safe, eat pretty much anything offered, and are midly aggressive. Anyone have any other info or advice on this fish?

    Good or bad?

I have had a recent explosion of little snails in my tank. They seem to have a white shell with brown stripes. I see them during the day, but looking at night is when I see the most of them out and about. I have turbos, margaritas, astreas, and some nassarius (sp?) snails in the tank and...

    copper in B-Ionic?

I was under the impression that any copper is very bad news for a reef tank, but if you look on a bottle of B-Ionic it contains copper. Is there a certain copper that doesn't hurt invertabrates and such?

    Yellow tail blue damsels

Anyone have an opinion on them? The wife likes the look of them and wants to have one in the tank. I've read that they are one of the least aggressive of the damsels, but still have some aggression to them. Would be in a tank with mostly passive fish except for a yellow tang that will be...

    Coral of the Week?

What ever happened to the coral of the week idea? I don't remember who came up with the idea, but I only remember seeing it that one time. I think we could all benifit from something like this. It would also be interesting to see the pics or hear others experience with different corals.

False perc clown & skunk clown?

I know you aren't suppose to mix different types of clowns together, but would adding a pink skunk clown in with 2 existing false perc clowns work? The percs and the skunk clown don't look similar at all in my opinion. Any ever try this? The reason for asking is the LFS has a skunk clown that...

    Yellow tang last?

If having a reef tank with peaceful fish, does the yellow tang have to go in last? Does it matter if buying the tang small? Tank currently has two perc clowns, one who is under 1". Not sure what else would go in besides the tang, but not anything more than a fish or two. If I buy the tang...

    DIY hood question

I bought a JBJ 4X65 formosa light set for my 55. I've been looking for some different ideas on how to build a hood that this whole assembly would fit into. I have a few ideas but was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to build a hood to hold these lights. TIA

    Cynarina coral

Anyone have one? Likes, dislikes? Overall thought on the animal? Any comments at all? I've read they are a low to medium light coral that needs feeding about once a week. Low to moderate water flow. I got a steal on a really nice one last week for $50. I really like it, but I haven't seen...

    White Star?

I saw a pure white star the other day in my tank. He was small, not even 1/2 inch accross. What do you think it is, and is it reef safe? Also, this is the first time I have seen him, and I haven't added any LR in 4 months.

    Follow up on Colt Question

I posted a thread a week or so ago about my colt coral not staying open past 5. There was some discussion on whether it was still acclimating or if it just didn't need over 10 hours of light. Some of the posters that contributed to that thread asked that I post again to say what has happened...

    Garlic question

I have just started using garlic when feeding. What I have been doing is cutting up a chunk of garlic and mixing it with food, and tank water, then let it sit in the fridge overnight. I then pull out the garlic chunks, let it warm to room temp, and dump in. My question is, is it bad or...

    Colt Question

I bought a colt coral 2 weeks ago. I turn my lights on at 7 am. At about 5 pm he tends to shrink up and not extend his polyps anymore. Is this normal? The time in between those times he's big and looking great. It just sucks that he isn't out after I get home from work. TIA

    can I add another clown?

I have one false perc now, about 2 inches. I would like to add another because I like the way two interact with each other. Can I add another or will they fight? Would it be better to get one bigger or smaller than the one I have now? TIA

    Clams under VHO

A couple of days ago someone posted pictures of his clams under only 440W of VHO on a 75G. Mostly every post I've read here says not to have clams without MH. This persons clams looked incredible. I wanted to know what some of you think of this situation and also why MH is suggested all the...
